One of the reasons I've not been posting much lately is that I've been catching up on some reading. In the past couple of weeks I've read:
Lauren Bacall, By Myself & Then Some (sitting on my bookshelves since last summer, I finally got round to it!) Bogart - by A M Sperber & Eric Lax (for the 2nd time) The Journal of Antonio Montoya - by Rick Collignon (a gentle rural tale of family past & present set in Guadaloupe - poignant, haunting & humorous) The Other Woman - by Jane Green (mother-in-law trials & tribulations, makes good beach reading) The Game - by Mandasue Heller (Similar style to Lynda la Plante & Martina Cole) Visions in Death - by J D Robb (I'm quite hooked on this futuristic detective series) The Zahir - by Paulo Coelho (is it possible to both like and be irritated by an author's works? I always feel like this and yet keep on reading his books)
And I've just started the hilarious Honey Don't by Tim Sandlin

AHH I heart Betty Bacall!!! Seriously though, people wonder why I talk about her so much and I just say to them READ HER AUTOBIO, it's just amazing...and very witty and truthful. OMG the part about Kate dying I cried so hard. And her romance with Bogie -- all those love letters...such a sweet couple! And when Bogie socked the lady because she tried to take his Baby's stuffed panda LOL. He was a bit sloshed ahaha.
Hmm...I may read one of those books you mentioned. Possibly Honey Don't, I'm always good for teh hilarious.

Man I really need to start reading again! I think the last book I read was The Da Vinci Code. . . which was a couple of months ago. But then I started reading Mrs. Dalloway and wasn't too enthralled so I didn't keep up with it. Maybe I should force myself to read something to prepare myself for when I go back to school. I'm horrible at doing things I'm not interested in doing. (i.e. books our literature teacher would make us read. I would wait until the last minute to start reading, hate it and then get cliff's notes. Miraculously I always made it out of those classes with no less than a B ;D)

Les rois maudits, Maurice Druon, History of Kings of france in the Middle age : murders, curse, love, betray .... but I'm very slow because I must read books about Isis for my thesis. Catherine what will you study ?

Aurelie, I've been wanting to study fashion design and illustration for a long time. It depends on where I go. If I get my portfolio together and can get accepted to Parson's in New York, I won't have to take all the general courses like math, science, history, etc. although I do want to dabble in biology, meteorology and archaeology. I've been bent on art for so long that I'm wanting to try something new. I've almost lost enthusiasm for pursuing fashion or art as a career. Of course there's also history that I want to study, philosophy, theology. I think I'd be better off going to the college I've already been accepted to. I just don't want to deal with transferring.

Aurelie, have you seen the production of Earthsea that the Sci-Fi channel did about a year ago? The only thing that I can remember about it was that it had Kristin Kreuk in it. Attractive yes, an actress..no.
I finished Spencer Tracy: a biography by Larry Swindell a few weeks ago and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it yet. Now I'm reading 1984 by George Orwell which is pretty good so far. Lauren Bacall's autobio is on my must read list as well.

Actually I discover earthsea with the miniserie with Isabella Rosselini, Kristin Kreuk, I liked it more for the stories than for actors. i'm fonfd of Magic things, legend, witch, fairy .... That make me want to read the book, actually the story is different and the book is better than the movie. But I'm often desapointed by adaptation of books in cinema .

When you will finish 1984, tell me as you feel. I'd like to read it, I studied some excerps in school, but I never dare to read it complete.

HAHA that's cool Shaun, about 1984, because we're studying it in my Individual in Society class. It's pretty scary stuff..."old speak" to "new speak" Double-Cool!! Yeah, def get going on Bacall's bio Shaun, she's a woman after your own heart. Wicked cool about going back to college Catherine!! That would mean you'd be moving back to NYC, right? That's so sweet it needs tupperware. haha wow that was dumb.

Yes, that is wonderful news about you going back to college Catherine! Sounds like a fascinating course. Let us know how it goes!
I'm getting Lauren Bacall's book for my birthday, I can't wait to read it. At the moment I'm still reading about Chanel. I put it down to read a Judy Garland biography and am picking it up again now. I'm dreadful for starting more than one book at the same time.
Love Gem

If you like bios, I don't really know who (other than Kate) you like reading about but I liked:
No One Here Gets Out Alive: The Biography of Jim Morrison by Jerry Hopkins Thing of Beauty: The Tragedy of Supermodel Gia by Stephen Fried
Fiction: Lilith by J.R. Salamanca -- about a young guy who finds work at a psychiatric hospital and falls in love with an intelligent schizophrenic who develops her own language/world. The Beach by Alex Garland -- the basis for the movie (which of course isn't as good as the book). He's a young author but extremely talented. Very descriptive writing without seeming like he's droning on (i.e. Virgina Wolff -- sorry, my attention span is no good for her (at least for Mrs. Dalloway) The Catcher in the Rye! -- I think everyone's read this book mostly because it was required in school. . . but I didn't read it until about 2 years ago and finished it in one night. Loved it. I've read it like three times now. . . I think there's a sort of pattern to my books. . . crazy drug addicts/books that serial killers like. ;D

lol Yeah, the movie was pretty close to portraying the real Gia. They sort of meshed a lot of people in her life into one probably for time constraint. . . but yeah, if you can find it in French definitely read it. And if you can't, read it in English ;D
