Yes, Martha - that's the thing. I am the last person who would want to stifle a person's art, but this notion of "dramatic license" is just a defensive response by these writers.
If they presented their plays as fictions about fictional larger than life characters and didn't present them to the world as THE LIFE of so and so - even if behind closed doors it would be obvious WHO they were channeling - that would be one thing. But of course then, their shortcomings as compelling playwrights would be obvious, and no one would go to see their plays.
But put KH's name on it - or Tallulah's - or Judy G's - and then you have a built in audience who will shell out dough to see their favorites onstage only to discover that their histories have been revised and twisted and subjected to "dramatic license."
It's a cheat, as far as I am concerned. And unfair. And revisionist. And rather than illuminate their subjects, it dehumanizes them.
I hate it.
Charles Busch, as some here probably already know, is going to do a one-night benefit performance of TEA AT FIVE. I think that Busch, his unfortunate last name notwithstanding, has an underlying affection for all the women - the real and the archetypes - he plays. But his audience isn't all that discerning, I don't think. They will come there to laugh at this man playing KH and no matter how committed he may be to the performance, she will be laughed at. Laughed WITH, I have no problem. Laughed AT, infuriates me.

hey evelien! i believe i own these titles as purchased separately. I didn't purchase this particular package .. so i can't answer your question about subtitles (i.e. this package's versions might have different extras and attributes). but that price is very decent for the multiple titles in the box set ...
