Garson Kanin's book Tracy and Hepburn arrived today. I'm still reading my other Dietrich book though, and it looks like I'm gonna have to put off my Hitchcock biography just so I can started on this one. I'm really excited to read this. Should be quite insightful. By the way, has anyone read Young Kate by Christopher Anderson? I'm thinking of buying that one as well. I've read it. Unfortunately Anderson's book is really a cut and paste. Nothing new, nothing insightful. If you are collecting Kate stuff, buy it, if you are just interested in reading it, get it from the library. Sherry What I thought - his book An Affair to Remember is better ;D

I haven't lived until I discovered TCM. Moreover, I hadn't lived before Kate died.
Thanks Sherry. I am as a matter of fact collecting her books, so I will probably just purchase it later on. There are many out there and I don't believe it was very popular. No hurry. I did however get around to purchasing An Affair to Remember. That book should be coming in the mail in a few days.

okay my favorite "Kate book" of all time must be the Prideaux book "Knowing Hepburn ..." - I think its the absolute best and fun of all. Well, its not really a biography I know - not at all, but I just adore the stories in it - and I especially enjoy his way of writing. Its totally hilarious and wonderfully written. And I love the side of Kate he mostly writes about - the funny Kate. I've read it about 10 times now - just finished it again and could actually simply start again from the beginning ;D
I also got the "Kate - the woman who was Katharine Hepburn" and "at home with Kate" quite a while ago. The first one .. uhm.. didn't like it - I really don't care for those "all to greatly researched biographies of people who didn't even meet Kate and think they know all about her and suggest all sorts of things in her private life - nah - not for me. Much more enjoyed the other one - lovely stories about Kate .. and how she cared for other - loved it.
Also have to mention the BERG BOOK .. enjoyed THAT ... wonderful stories .. although towards the end ... I wasn't so sure if I liked it anymore. Someone here *I believe* mentioned somewhere in a critique that he/she was wondering why he didn't visit Kate anymore towards the end ... that's what I think too - and somehow .. I'm not all to pleased with the way he just instantly after her death published this book ...
oh - and the KANIN book - well great to read - although I kinda understand why she got cross with him when he published it
thats the ones I think of now ...

The books written by people who knew Kate certainly are the best. There's a new biography about Bette Davis coming out this fall called DARK VICTORY by Ed Sikov. I've heard he's a reputable author. I wish he would write one about Kate! Most of these "legitimate biographies" about KH are junk.

Plus I don't think we need another 600+bio - basically its the same in every book whereas the stories from Norah's daughter are really enjoyable to read ... from the KATE book sometimes I even get the feeling that that guy didn't even like Kate ... really strange ... I've read a bio about Bette Davis once ... but I can't remember who wrote it - very interesting life as well !!!

I don't like Kate Remembered all too much. There's a million reasons I can give, but I don't have the time as I am rushing to a family shindig.
Anyways, I'd stick with Kate's two books, Garson's, etc.
Kathy Houghton better start writing her's or I am going to scream.

(after I had that cry of course) I was really angry at Berg ... kinda .. I felt he envaded her privacy or something - which is strange cause I've read really much about Kate ... but somehow I had the feeling he went to far ... can't quite put my finger on WHY exactly though ....

I don't like Kate Remembered all too much. There's a million reasons I can give... I always have the mixed feeling while reading it (it didn't stop me - I read it three times). I gave my reason in the thread about Berg's book. I love Prideaux and Kanin books the most. I don't remember which I liked better. Dreamer, do you remember which I liked better? I started to read "At Home with Kate" but something disturbed me... I must read it in the future.

Hi Annie, That she was I - love not beeing the only one anymore - until yesterday feelt a little alone with my opinion. But now - not anymore oh - okay - I quite agree with you there ... I really enjoy reading through the book - but towards the end when she was not well anymore ... all of a sudden he went only "once a year" or something... and I was kinda reading out of that - when she started to become really "old" and he couldn't get anything FROM her anymore as in - great talks and opinions .. well the stuff he liked about her I guess ... he stopped visiting (even though he wrote that he felt she liked seeing him) Well I could be wrong ... just something I thought about ... and when did he publish the book ?? 2 days after her death ?? Okay exxagerating but you know what I mean ... the earlier the more money to make out of it .... oh well *sorry* - still a good read ... definitely !!!!

The book was published less than two weeks after her passing - excatly 13 days.
The book had been in a vault by the publisher for many month - waiting for the final chapter - Kate's passing.
Not sure if it was just money or some kind of bragging like "Hey I was a friend of Kate" and wanting to be part of the great rumble after her passing.
Sure I loved many parts and weept reading the book - but as a friend one does not expose another and then the less visiting part - as if it was a burden - no time is no excuse to me. I think she gave him a lot - which he forgot to appriciate or give back which a true friend should do.
