Whoops, upon further reading I saw that the play opened in 1938--not '39. I guess if I'm going to cheat I need to pay closer attention to my crib notes ;D

Correct on the amjor
- it wasn't Leland because she didn't meet him until she went to Hollywood although apparently he went out on a few dates with Laura before he met Katharine back in the 1920's

What was the name of the boy with whom Kate had her first kiss?

Bob McKnight was Katharine's first serious relationship - he proposed to her while she was at university and he also got an invite home to Fenwick . I believe he was a recipient of the kiss

Um... didn't you ask who she was involved with during her "time away from Luddy" -- meaning when she went to Hollywood? Otherwise, yeah, Robert McKnight.

Well Phelps Putnam sort of . Bob McKnight left for Rome in about 1927/1928 so he was out of the picture.

What happened to Robert McKnight? I don't really know anything about him... even if I've read it in Kate books, I've forgotten. He really was an incredible, enviable sculptor. From what I understand, he gained some notoriety for his work. Anyone have the story on him?

Bob McKnight and Katharine remained friends until his death in 1989 . If you read Katharine's autobiography he was staying with her in 1941 she met Spencer . Could this have been an attempt to rekindle the romance? I suspect so .
McKnight became the director of the Academy of the Memphis Academy of Art and went on to have a distinguised career after the war . He designed a special alphabet among other things .

Also, does anybody know what Kate's first job was? Before she became an actress.

Some relationships are alluded to in the various books . Apparently Katharine told Garson that her first love was a local fisherman who rescued her and Tom from the sea when she was a young teenager . Years later Katharine lived in a fisherman's shack for a while because it reminded her of Bill .
Also there have been references to a local Catholic boy that Katharine used to date .

Wasn't her first job a play? The Big Pond maybe? I don't think she did anything other than what she wanted for money. Must have been nice! ;D
