Judy,
All I can say is 'WOW'! That is so amazing that got the chance to see her on stage and even met her! I enjoyed reading your posts in that thread SO much.
It was funny how you described getting mail when you came home from school, and how exciting that was--I can relate...
I have 3 autographs and a letter from Doris Day, and seeing her return address in MY mailbox is -- just crazy!
I would of loved to get mail from Kate! The simlicity of the reply she sent you saying you could go backstage just shows what kind of a 'real' person Kate was...I love that about her!
Thanks again for sharing...I look forward to posting on here often.

I should seriously consider writing to an actress from that time who's still alive. Lauren Bacall, perhaps? No, no... Joan Fontaine. Oh yeah.

You're right, Richard, you should!...Or there's always Olivia.... They won't be here forever, which is really very sad... My kids are certainly going to know about Classic Hollywood, though!

Wouldn't it be awesome if they turned it into a kind of inn... or bed and breakfast? Or a Kate museum? I would definitely visit. Do you think Lauren Bacall would respond to a letter? I'd love to write and ask her about Kate, or would that be insulting to write to one star and ask about another?

hello! I'm new here too. My name is Gemma, I'm 24, I live on my own in South Wales and am a comprehensive teacher. I haven't had a chance to read through all the threads here yet, but it looks like a really interesting board, from what I've seen so far, and I look forward to hopefully being part of it. I'm a new Kate fan and I haven't seen all her films yet. My favourites are Bringing up Baby and Lion in Winter. I'm reading the Scott Berg book at the moment and really enjoying it. It's such a lovely book, I don't want to finish it!

This forum is picking up steam--three new members in two days! I'd like to be the first to welcome you, Gemma and the first to recommend The Philadelphia Story, Alice Adams, Holiday, On Golden Pond, and mounds of her other films. Happy watching!

PS -- I can't say whether or not Lauren Bacall would respond... but it's worth a try! Maybe I will, too. Except I haven't seen many of her films... so it would be more like, I'm writing you because you knew Kate...

Phew! I've finally gotten around to making a post on here! I'm sure I'm going to feel right at home-oh wait, I didn't even introduce myself yet!
Name's Amber. *waves to forum* I'm 17 and have been a Kath Hep fan (follower, you might say) since I was a wee biddy. Ever since I was little my mother has always tried to instill in me the importance of the Golden Age of Hollywood. That's why I love our Kate so much. To me, she IS classic hollywood. She represented-and continues to represent-all the class, integrity, and raw talent that nowadays-well, let's just say today shades in comparrison (I think). Well, I just wanted to make a quick post to let you all know I'm glad to be here.
Oh! By the way, Catherine, I wrote to Lauren Bacall when I was 14-she wrote back in about 4 months! She's awfully nice about it. Yeah, I basically know about every actor from old hollywood today because they knew/starred with/stood next to/traveled with Kate in some way, shape or form. Anyway, good luck!
With Love, *-Amber-*

Question.
When you guys write to a celebrity, does it have to be hand-written? The reason I ask is because my penmanship is horrible and I don't want them thinking I'm a ten-year-old.

I don't think there is any sort of written rule about celebrity letter-writing. Look at Kate... her letters are all typed (probably because it takes about 20 minutes to decipher her handwriting) but she signs them.

Where can I find celebrity addresses, particularly Bacall's?
Welcome Amber!

OH yeah, hi Amber I'm so rude. According to one site, Lauren Bacall's address is 1 W. 72nd ST, NY 10023, which would put her in, I think, the Dakotas (John Lennon's building and the building Rosemary's Baby was filmed in). Didn't someone say they met Bacall while walking down Central Park West? Which sounds right if that's the correct address. I guess Katie can tell you
