Trivia question . Most casual observers of Katharine might think she didn't know about fashion but that is not true . She wore a Babini wedding dress and one of her cousins remembers her returning from Paris with presents including the latest Paris fashions to give as presents . Her cousin commented that the dresses usually looked better on Katharine.
When Katharine first met Cukor they had an argument and Katharine mentioned a famous dress designer . Does anybody remember the conversation?

Elizabeth Hawes! Okay, I cheated. I can't tell a lie dammit. But I was racking my brain trying to remember that one. I know the famous argument, though. She arrived wearing a (then) outrageous outfit and he said she looked ridiculous -- or something along those lines. But of course Kate didn't care what he thought -- or liked to make people think that.

Cukor showed Katharine the costumes and designs she would wear - she rejected them all as being too girly . She then pointed to what Laura was wearing and asked Cukor if he knew Chanel - he was pretty annoyed at her and asked her about what she was wearing - he hated it . Eventually Katharine told Cukor to pick out the designs that he wanted and they became friends from then on .

Hmm... okay Chanel! But she was wearing Elizabeth Hawes when he first saw her. So, two separate conversations? Chanel is a classic... mostly the same type of designs, though. I watched their fashion show for fall. I loved the way they did it... can't say the same for a lot of the designs ;D I'm liking Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana...

Yes she had the dress made for her and apparently it didn't suit her . As well it was very hot when she arrived in California and her eyes were swollen from the cinders
