Another facet of Katharine's personality that people might not pick up on was that she had very stable relationships with people and kept her friends all her life . Classic introvert behaviour and another reason why all the " Katharine slept with everybody in Hollywood" biographies are nonsense . Just not part of her character .

I think that Katharine, like a lot of people, showed personality traits from both ends of the introvert/extrovert spectrum. Without wishing to sound too Jungian, as someone already pointed out, being an introvert has little to do with social shyness - it's more a case of being very aware of one's own thoughts & feelings, and analysing life & the world through one's own opinions & perceptions rather than reacting to external stimuli. Katharine didn't have too much time for the spiritual & metaphysical world - she tended to jump in and live life to the full, preferring to deal with reality and what she could see before her very eyes. She was lively, energetic, had tons of enthusiasm, and a great sense of adventure. She was warm & friendly with a wide range of people from crew members through household help to most of the Fenwick community, and she showed remarkable self-confidence at times, and had a get-up-and go, bounce right back personality. All these are classic extrovert qualities. On the other hand, she valued her privacy more than most, was a homebird, felt most at ease with her family and closest friends, and had a great sense of loyalty & committment, all of which denote classic introvert behaviour. She had a very caring, loving side to her nature & did many deeds of kindness incognito. She was also often unassuming and modest about her achievements, whilst at the same time knowing her own mind and being convinced that she was right - again, markers of an introvert nature. In a way, she was exactly like the profession she chose. Actors suffer from stagefright (as did Kate) but can appear outwardly extrovert by hiding their true selves behind the character they are playing, and often carry on this pretence into their real lives as a coping mechanism - witness the birth of "the creature". On the other hand, they do like applause & recognition (Katharine often said her main reason for choosing this particular career was simply to become famous). And although privacy and time on her own were important to her, Kate was no Garbo "I want to be alone" - she enjoyed being the centre of attention and wasted no time promoting the fact that she was so fascinating and adorable - which of course she was On occasion she even showed exhibitionist tendancies, be it walking round the set in her underwear until her trousers were returned, modelling in the nude and displaying the finished products in her living room, housebreaking & swimming in stranger's pools, or going off to take a shower whilst the realtor was showing her round a prospective property. In short, you just can't put Katharine into a neatly labelled box. There were so many different aspects to her character which made her into the unique person she was.

Hmmmm very well-said I look at Kate and wonder, where in the world can I find someone like that? What an awesome friend to have. She was a rare find... and I have yet to meet anyone like her. A celebrity that I have in mind might be Angelina Jolie -- and I know there was probably a collective gasp -- but personality-wise they shared some qualities. The wild side. Angelina is an introvert although many people would assume extrovert, she likes attention and exhibitionism yet she has very close friends and tends to keep them for a lifetime, she is very caring, compassionate, and also confident and sexy. The movies they chose are rather different... and I'm sure Kate probably had little respect for her if she saw any of her movies but personality-wise it's the only celebrity I can compare her to... Free spirits I guess. Catherine

Oh yeah, one difference though: Angelina Jolie probably has slept with everyone in Hollywood.

While thumbing through the paper today I found an article about introverts. It listed some famous ones which included Einstein, Michael Jordan, and Kate! Seeing her name in print was cool...little things like this just make my day.

Aww Shaun, things like that get to me too! Like at the Oscars when they show little clips of a director's films and for like .05 seconds Kate's on there and I scream. I remember one thrilling instance last year when, right there in my school newspaper, there was a section on movie reviews. Except this one was special because it was all about Kate and the T/H rom coms!!! It highlighted AR, and the person who wrote it ended up being this awesome Senior (who's initials were S.T. and wanted to be called that, for obvious reasons). Her article really was a plea for the kids at my school to start watching GOOD films. Needless to say we hit it off right from the start. She's gone to Virginia now to become super lawyer woman..all because of Pinkie Bonner! ;D I miss her terribly...
