One of the most admirable qualities about Katharine was her ability to keep friendships even after she became famous . The people she met in Australia - she kept in touch with them until they died - 45 years in some cases . She wrote to them - they visited her when they came to America and the letters were very regular . Later Katharine's friends Mrs and Mr Casey became the Governer General of Australia - they visited Katharine and Spencer in 1957 in New York and Mr Casey's description of Spencer was hilarious . Laura was a guest at the dinner as well and apparently a lot of the conversation was about Spencer's dislike of Hemingway .
One of the Katharine's first friends in college was Alice Palache . She worked for a while with Margaret Sanger and ended up in a financial company becoming second in charge .
Anybody wish to name any other people

They met when they were very young, dreamt of fame and success in their respective fields, achieved both - and remained friends till he died in 1989. He knew many of the people in her world -- both at MGM and in her private life (like ST and her brother Richard) and she knew the people in his. The relationship was a warm and affectionate one, judging by the tone of her letters to him (a few of which I have seen). Judy

Has anyone seen pictures of McKnight? I can't place a face with the name. Would Irene Selznick count? It seems like their friendship started to sour towards the end.

There is a picture of him in the Anne Edwards book . He was a college beau who got as far as proposing - he won a major art prize in Rome in the late 1920's and went on to be the director of the Memphis Academy of Art
