In a somewhat obscure book written by the authors of Desk Set there was a comment about a conversation with Spencer . Ephron was commenting on their relationship and Spencer laughed and said that Katharine had never forgiven him for Ingrid Bergman . Ephron's comment was that he didn't understand how Katharine could be jealous about a relationship that was probably over before they met . They were human beings.

HEEEEEEEEEEEE. Well that story made me giggle. I love how he decided to be all open about Kate and him with THE EPHRONS. HA!
Well, it's like saying how could he not be jealous over her relationship with Howard.
I think it's the same thing as the man that won that reality show with the woman that used to date Fabio. He gave her up because of it. Ways people behave!

Now that I'm thinking about it, wasn't there some sort of situation with Ingrid, though? Like, she wanted to rekindle their tiny affair, but he was with Kate by that time?

I guess Spencer was saying that they did have a relationship but it has been much debated what the situation was when he first met Katharine  |

Well Spencer probably had affairs with a lot of his leading ladies . There is a great story in Myran's Loy's autobiography - she doesn't spell it out but in about 1942 she bumped into Spencer - he was a bit under the weather - she thought he was going to make a pass like he usually did and at some point he stopped and said - you don't have to worry about me any more - I have found the woman I want . Mryna said she was happy to hear about the virtues of Katharine but a little disappointed that Spencer was now out of the picture
