If there is one thing or one question you would like to ask Spencer what would it be ? I would like to ask him when he first realised that the relationship with Katharine was serious . Because lets be honest here, he had been around . I would ask what was it about kate that attracted him to her ?

I'd ask him if he would have liked to have children with Kate

I sometimes want to know certain things about their relationship, but if they wanted everyone to know they obviously would have shared it with us. What happened between them is their business and their business only. I am just glad to know some of the things that happened between them happened. For example the love Kate had for him and how she tried to help him with his problems. Then how she even changed certain things about herself for him. Now that is true love.
If I could ask Spencer something like what did he enjoy doing in his spare time? I mean like readin books and that kind of stuff.

Wow great topic, I'm new here peeps btw from Sydney Australia =)
I'd LOVE to ask the desired question too! Who made the first move?!
I'd [like to] think there was an element of excitement and sneakiness and huge bursts of adrenalin when they finally got to see eachother like in Betty and Bogie's situation (who had to see eachother in secret for months while Bogie was still married). It seems fun and something so Kate when she was younger.. particularly in their earlier days. Since she seems to have done anything for Spence and I can see it, secret meetings, going in back entrances, going in the service elevator in case a reporter spotted her.. you can see it!
Woman of the Year gives me chills, imagine the tension on set not being able to be in an open relationship. I always feel for her in that respect. Things probably would have been easier (for Kate) if Spence divorced, but we'll never know.
Has anyone on this board read Garson Kanin's book "Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn"? I just finished reading it. Great read! I'll have to get it out and put some quotes from it about incodents that happened with the two of them, especially a funny one where Spence was contacted by management of his hotel asking him to tell his guest, Kate, that they had dress regulations and "Sir, she wears slacks" and Spence's reply to Kanin 'I don't think she owns a dress?!' From then on, Kate (of course refusing to purchase a dress to walk in the front entrance of the hotel) used the service elevator at the back saying "they may hate me at the front of the hotel, but they love me out the back!"

Jess I just finished that book and I agree, its wonderful! I loved the bit where some guests are wondering what it is like to have Kate live next door, and then Kate walks into the room while trying on different wigs, and doesn't realize that there are guests present. Once she spots then she simply says, "nice to have met you all," and then quietly leaves. Hilarious!

Haha, exiled I love that part.. she cracks me up. I'm a new member and didn't realise there's a whole 'books' page and everyone on this board has probably read the book (which I mis-named! oops!) "Tracy and Hepburn: an intimate memoir".
I'm so glad I picked it up at the second hand book store. I wasn't sure at first cause I had no idea who Garson Kanin was (terrible NOW, I know! haha) but luckily I read the jacket cover and thoguht HE KNEW THEM, I'M BUYING IT!
