Has Katharine ever been filmed more beautifully?
Some time ago I read an article that claimed that Katharine went to a famous skin specialist in the 1930's to see if she could do anything about her freckles . He refused to touch her face - he said that they made her face so distinctive and it was too much of a risk .
It makes me really sad to think that if Katharine were alive today she might get a different opinion

I don't remember what Kate thought about Alice Adams... someone can refresh me's memory.

She was quite proud of it. She said so in 'All About Me.'

I love this movie SO MUCH. It's simple and true and she plays it with a real sense of her character. I think she began to mature as an actress at this point, too. Yey AA (not Alcoholics Anonymous)!

It's one of her best really. Laughed as much as I cried. Of all her films I've seen, this is one of the ones I can really relate too, and know exactly how see feels in some of the scenes. At a couple of points during the dance at the beginning, my heart nearly breaks. And then I laugh when that horrible turn around the dancefloor happens. The look on her face is priceless. And later, during dinner, it goes so awkwardly that it just makes my skin crawl. It's brilliantly executed.
And I must say...despite what was in the book, I think that it is far better for film that she cries at the window, and not on the bed. To me, Alice Adams wouldnt cry on the bed. It's too hopeless. It's kind of a giving in, giving up, flop down on the bed and sob. Alice Adam's was a brave, strong girl and she would come in, and try to go on as normal - such as opening the window, but it would come out anyway. What I mean, is that falling down on the bed seems like she feels sorry for herself. And Alice Adam's didnt. Not really. She was a Katharine Hepburn type. Don't complain, look for the positive in everything and move-a-forward. Also, as for the ending dispute. I'm torn. While I think that Hollywood-ising endings is wrong (eg Pretty Woman. at the end ofthe book Julia Roberts' character commits suicide. why sugar coat that?)...I also think that had Alice Adam's not got the man, it would have broken my heart and I would have been WAY to sad.
(and yes, I do agree. she was gorgeous in this film. But then, she always was)

She was quite proud of it. She said so in 'All About Me.' Yes,she should be proud of it. The storyline was quite good. McMurray and Kate seemed to go well together,in this movie. Adore how well she played Alice. Believable.

Kate on the set with Fred Stone and Heppa Hopper. Having seen this photo with the expression on Kate's face like this. It makes it even harder to believe the portrait they made of her in The Aviator.
