I saw The Shipping News the other day and was struck by how Kate-like Judi Dench was in her role. Not an actress I'd ever considered to portray KH before, but with the right clothes & make-up I think she could pull off Kate in her later years. Think she'd have a good stab at the accent too.
But yeah I know, we've said it before - no-one could play Kate to perfection.

I see what you mean Karina. She does have that air about her. I would never have thought about her but I think she's just a wonderful actress. I've never seen The Shipping News though. It was on over Christmas, but I forgot about it.

Gem, you must see The Shipping News. Great film. Cate Blanchett is gorgeous in it (not that that's the only reason you should watch it). And Karina, I see where you're coming from. Judi Dench is one of the actresses I listed in that thread a while back of who Kate would be good with if she was a young actress today. Maybe I subconsciously confused Dench as being Kate-like and instead figured she would be a good costar. Hmm... can two Kates play well together?

What was so amazing in "The Shipping News" was that Judi actually looked like Kate (in some shots). Everything from the clothes, the hair off the face greying at the temples (short for Judi, tied back for Kate) and the turned-down mouth. She even resembled her physically, although in real life Judi's shorter and stockier than Kate ever was.
And yes Cate was great too, as was Kevin Spacey, himself a fan of Kate & Spence!

Oooh, speaking of Kevin Spacey - Last summer I went to see Lorna Luft (Judy Garland's daughter) at the Savoy in London doing her show Songs My Mother Taught Me and Kevin Spacey was sat right behind us! I went with a friend who knew one of the people that was working on the show so we knew that he was going to be there. He came in quite late, just before the curtain went down, wearing a hat, which he didn't take off till the lights went down. She had a standing ovation at the end and he even put his hat back on when he stood up for that! To be honest, I thought he drew far more attention to himself trying to look inconspicuous than if he'd just behaved normally! Love Gem |

Hmm... interesting about Kevin Spacey. And interesting I forgot to mention him when talking about TSN since he's one of my faves -- mostly because of American Beauty, which is one of my favorites. Perhaps he is an oddball in real life as well... ;D Very cool you got to sit in front of him. I'm trying to imagine you sitting there trying to look behind you inconspicuously every few minutes (how else would you have noticed the hat trick?). lol

Obviously Kate visited him backstage once when he was doing LONG DAYS JOURNEY (I believe) with Jack Lemmon ... he did an impression what she said on an interview - HILLARIOUS!!!!
