I guess you sort of block them out of your mind and are contained in your own bubble -- which isn't always a good thing! I love my bubble thank you very much. ;D I touch no one and no one touches me...

Well I'm glad you enjoy your bubble! Mine is quite nice as well. I hope no one with a sharp object comes along. ;D

The Rainmaker-One of Kate's great spinster roles. This film hardly receives the recognition it deserves; then again all of her movies from the 1950's are overshadowed by The African Queen. Kate's performance is pitch perfect, she tugs at the heart strings in the scene where she finally admits that she's an "old maid," and she makes you laugh out loud in the scenes where she acts like a flirtatious bimbo. The latter was something that I didn't think Kate could pull off so well, but then again I shouldn't be suprised--they don't call her Kate the Great for nothing!

Stage Door Canteen
Really, I thought this movie was sweet. It has a great story, too, with some pretty good music. But watching the opening credits of this film and seeing the dozens of celebrities who made their special appearance, I absolutely no nothing about the movies made during that time because I only recognized a few names, and it made me feel really bad.
Katharine's appearance was nice, even if it was at the last 5 minutes of the picture.

I've never had the opportunity to see "Sylvia Scarlett." I wish they'd release some of Kate's lesser known movies on dvd (Sylvia Scarlett, State of the Union, Without Love, Song of Love, Keeper of the Flame, A Woman Rebels, Holiday). The last Katharine Hepburn film I watched was "The Philadelphia Story." I never get tired of it. The dialogue is witty and superb. Other Kate films I own are (Bringing Up Baby, Long Day's Journey Into Night, The Lion in Winter, Adam's Rib, Pat and Mike, Woman of the Year, Summertime, Alice Adams, The Rainmaker, and Stage Door.)

I'm with you susanvance16. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the African Queen and Holiday. What is with the studios? Why aren't these titles out yet?

Nicholas: You should definitely try to see Sylvia Scarlett As for the DVDs, maybe we should all sign a petition and send it to MGM... or RKO.

Is RKO still in existence?

I think it was Ginger Rogers who said that when he worked at RKO she had to check the sign on the door every day she came to work . RKO had a interesting history and constantly changing management . It is no longer in existence - in the 1940's Howard brought the studio and proceeded to sack heaps of staff and make lots of movies with big breasted women . Probably other people on the site can provide more details .

I was wondering that myself so I visited their website... which spells Kate's name with an 'e' I might add... and there are ways to contact them, even if RKO is no longer in existence.

Adam's Rib: I thought I lost this one! I was looking under my sofa for a shirt (don't ask) and I grabbed a DVD and suddenly "Adam's Rib" flashed through my mind and I looked at it and sure enough... So, of course I had to watch it! I have to admit, I love watching the parts where Kate loses her temper. Maybe because she does it so well. And because you never see her lose her cool. The last scene. Oh my god what a crack up. Dancing back and forth between the elevator and Spencer Tracy. And Kate's reactions to Judy Holliday during the famous interrogation scene. "I don't smoke" -- Kate: "Alright.." -- "It isn't feminine" -- Kate: split-second break in concentration and continues on. So great.

I watched Desk Set the other day and I really enjoyed it. Though my copy didn't seem to be great quality. I'm not sure if that's just how the film is, or if I've managed to get a dodgy copy. The whole film seems to be from a distance and there aren't really any close up shots. Is that just the way it's been filmed?
I'm about to watch The Philadelphia Story for the first time too. I'm really looking forward to this one!

I'm not sure about Desk Set. It's been a while since I've seen it, but it might just be the way it was shot.
You are going to love the Philadelphia Story! It is the most classic Hepburn film and to this day no other movie has topped its witty dialogue, and Kate is magnificent in it.

Thanks Judy, that's what I thought. I still enjoyed it, but I'll go around getting some of the other films before I get a better copy I think.
I loved the Philadelphia Story!! It was fabuous! Kate is just perfect as Tracy Lord. And I adore her and Cary Grant together, especially in Bringing up Baby. I just ordered Holiday online. Is this a good one?
