Heard a funny interview with Leachman on the CBC- may have been a replay because it was related to her autobio, which was published over a year ago- and came in right as she was talking about Kate and As You Like It (in which she played Celia).
Apparently, in this particular theatre the dressing room was several flights up, and so it was difficult for the actors to run up, change costume (full Elizabethan, mind you) and sometimes hairstyle, and be back in time for an entrance. For one particular scene, Leachman had to have Kate's brother Dick, who was assistant stage manager (did not know this!) help her down to the stage...and one day he forgot. By the time she got there, the stairs were blocked with actors and they literally had to pick her up and pass her over the actors like a mosh pit. Kate was kept waiting, and after the scene Kate shouted at Leachman, "You goddamned pig!"
And then was all sweetness the rest of the run.
It's cool that Dick was ASM though. And according to IBDB he was also in a Broadway play. Who knew?

Thanks for the article, you learn something new every day. Randomness: Leachman grew up next door to my boss lol She said she was very very pretty and very very stuck on herself.

Yeah, clap'a yo' hands (and slap'a yo' thigh) if you had found out this year that Cloris Leachman played Celia to Kate's Rosalind.
Mayhap I always knew this shinformation, but it didn't really *click* until I google-trolled Leachman's book and then I was all, "WAIT, WHUT IS THIS? PHYLLIS LINDSTROM AND K-HEP'S LIVES CROSSED PATHS IN A PLACE OTHER THAN MY MIND? HOW DID THE EARTH NOT CAVE IN?"
And then my head exploded.
And lmao @ Poor, P-p-p-poor Brotha Dick. Guy couldn't catch a break in the theatre-world to save his boot straps.
