Kate's 1947 speech has been posted to the multimedia section, along with a few other clips which most of the members here are already familiar with. Enjoy! www.katethegreat.net/multimedia.htm

Thanks for the great additions to the multimedia section. The Cukor clip was enjoyable, as was the Berg interview--especially the last few minutes. But the interview Kate gave in 1947 was really something; she certainly was a rousing speaker. Her passion was incredible.

Thanks!! I haven't gotten the chance to watch all the new one ( I think I've seen most of them ) but the speech -- that was great. Hearing her giving a political speech. She is a rousing and passionate speaker.

But the interview Kate gave in 1947 was really something; she certainly was a rousing speaker. Her passion was incredible. I think that one cannot overstate what a courageous thing this was for her to have done. This was dark, dark time in American history. Then, as now, the artist is the easy target. But Arthur Laurents, who is purported to have written the speech, which I think is likely true, hit on some very controversial issues and made a point of indicating that it wasn't just the Hollywood community that was under attack, but people in all walks of life. His reference to the committee's plan as the "Master Plan" was masterful. They probably didn't get it. But the words would not have been enough had they not had someone like KH to speak them as eloquently - even humorously - and humanely as she did. JS

In reference to the 1947 speech, can't refrain from stealing Adam's line to Amanda from Adam's Rib "you're cute when you are causey."
Just a terrific brave speech. Took guts to name names -- no alluding to a nameless enemy -- she said their names. She could make that speech today -- just have to put new names in for those who would take away freedoms and silence the artists and disregard the scientists and attack the educators.
I think that hearing Kate give a speech is probably a very good indication of the way her Mother, Kit, sounded when she spoke in favor of women having the vote and the right to contraception. Would bet that Kate's mother was quite proud of her for doing this speech.
