The Academy is pleased once again to unveil to the public the actual Oscars that will be handed out at the 79th Academy Awards ceremony. Beginning February 9, visitors can view and photograph the 50 statuettes on display – and even pick one up for size – on the third level of the Hollywood & Highland Center, overlooking the central court. They can also see the Oscars awarded to Katharine Hepburn for her indelible performances in Morning Glory, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, The Lion in Winter and On Golden Pond.
The exhibition will give visitors an early opportunity to find out more about the Academy Awards and the memorable movie quotes reflected on this year’s poster. “Meet the Oscars” will be free and open to the public daily through February 24.
The Oscar statuettes are manufactured by R.S. Owens & Company in Chicago. At the end of the exhibition, they will be moved into the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, where on the evening of February 25, they will be placed in the hands of those being honored for their achievements in film for the year 2006. The Academy Awards ceremony will be televised live on Sunday, February 25, 2007, beginning at 5 p.m. on the ABC Television Network.
Admission for this event is free. The Hollywood & Highland Center is located on the northwest corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in Hollywood.
