Material that never made it into the final book - apparently Katharine wrote a chapter about an encounter with Ava Gardner where they both visited Cukor and had to change a tire - I have read some details elsewhere and its very funny .

Ava always stayed at my house when she came to Hollywood after she moved to Spain," he said. "The best way to describe Ava is `full of beans.' That was Ava. That was also Kate. Ava was more beautiful than any creature in film history, but she was uneducated. She and Kate were an unlikely pair but they shared the opinion that Hollywood was a ridiculous place. Anyway, I digress. This man came to the door. He had a flat tire on the street outside. He wanted to use my telephone to call for help.
"Kate said, `Nonsense. Call for help? We are adults here. We certainly can change a tire. Come on, Ava, we'll do it.' Ava was game, but reluctant, but they went outside."
Cukor remembered that he left to answer a phone. When he looked out the window moments later, he saw Gardner sitting on the curb reading an instruction book to Hepburn, while Hepburn changed the tire. They were going about the task very slowly and carefully, but with conviction. The bewildered little man who owned the car was standing on the sidelines watching.
"That would have been a classic photograph, if only a photographer had been there," Cukor said. "Kate never let anything top her - particularly not changing a tire."

That would've been a great picture, but it's a nice read. Thanks smith.
