On "All About Me" I believe Kate said that in the seen where she had to free the Queen from the brush she was concerned about getting into the water out of fear of the crocodiles. Yet I've just finished reading "The Making of the African Queen" and it said that before going to Africa her father sent her to a tropical diseases doctor and she told her not to get into the water, something that Kate abided by and that all of the scenes where she was in the water were shot in a tank in London. What actually happened?

They weren't supposed to go anywhere in the water because the water was infected by bilharza - apparentlly some potentially fatal disease which causes boils on the kidney's - ouch .
I think they shot in a couple of locations in Africa - maybe not all areas were infected . Apparently when Katharine was told that they would shoot to scare away the crocs she asked about the deaf ones .
I really don't know

Didn't they all get sick anyway? Including Kate... because they drank the water. The only ones who didn't get sick were Bogie and I think Huston because they drank whiskey all the time.

Yes you are correct. Katharine was drinking bottled water which was contaminated . But I doubt they were drinking the river water . I think they probably had water brought in from elsewhere .
You get bilharza by coming in contact with the river water - wading in the water , swimming etc .
There is no way that people making a movie would be exposed to the risks that the cast had to put up while making this movie . In fact Katharine was sick for some time even after leaving Africa - the effects lingered for several years

What other injuries/sicknesses did Kate have to endure because of a movie? Ones I can think of besides the one in Africa: A staph infection in her eye after falling into a canal in Venice... A sliver of metal in her eye on the way to California for her first movie... she didn't seem to have too much luck with her eyes. She had to have an eyelid operation later in life as well! The things that people talk about in fan forums...

Katharine injured herself in The Warrior's Husband - during one performance the leading man dropped her and she literally had to crawl off the stage - she usually finished the play being black and blue .
Also Katharine had continual problems with her voice throughout her entire career
