Shaun: You probably don't remember the sitcom "Kate and Allie" with Susan St. James and Jane Curtin. Prob'ly too young. The sketch I remember from Saturday Night Live was a takeoff on the sitcom called "Kate and Ali" with Martin Short as Kate and Billy Crystal as Muhammad Ali. I don't remember much about the sketch other than it was a typical Short impression of latter day Kate with head and voice shaking - I think I may have it on videotape. I taped a lot of that particular season because they did a lot of videotaped sketches that were really classic. I am naturally supersensitive to the shaky Kate stuff, but I still love Martin Short. HAHA it's quite a funny idea. I must say that. Hmm, Martin Short lost his sparkle to me evr since he did that interview on TVLand and he said those not-so-nice things about her.
I prefer the Mommie Dearest sketch on SNL. When Cary and Clark and (random) Kate came by to visit the "abused" Tina. OMG THAT WAS HIGH-LARIOUS. And now I forgot the girl that played Kath. It wasn't Jane Curtin, but the other one. She got applause (!) because the voice was dead-on (almost).
MY FAVORITE SEASONS OF SNL 1975-78 WHOO!....although the MD skit was in 81ish?

Thanks Kama. That is a great clip. He is very good! Did you read one poster's comment that Kevin's last name is a combination of Spencer and Tracy? Could that really be true??? We have a comedienne in Australia called Magda Szubanski who is short and .. well.... kind of rotund, but who is so talented. She does an hilarious KH impression (imho).

We have a comedienne in Australia called Magda Szubanski Oh, her name sounds very Polish. Eh, we are everywhere From imdb: "The use of the name Spacey, while rumored as a combination of Spencer Tracy's names, is actually his mother's maiden name." Sometimes rumors are better than true But there is also: "Spencer Tracy, Henry Fonda, James Stewart, Jack Lemmon, Al Pacino, and Jason Robards are his idols."

For those non Australians on the forum Magda is a brilliant Australian comedian - she was one of the main characters in the movie Babe . Has anybody on this forum seen the Australian series Kath and Kim ? One of the main character Sharon is played by Magda

I've seen the Mommie Dearest one- so funny!- but none of the Martin Short sketches or Sex in Cinema (Laraine Newman and Bill Murray reprise their roles as Kate and Cary). Who here totally wishes Kate had appeared on SNL? She would have been a terrific guest host. Sadly, I don't think she'd have liked that type of humour...
There was also a Dana Carvey routine on YouTube where he imitates Cary, Jimmy and Kate, musing on what it would have been like if it had been Cary Grant caught with the hooker instead of Hugh Grant. The cop investigating catches Jimmy and Kate at it in the next car. Don't want to link to it because it's....really dirty (all three stars are turning in their graves), but it's up there if you want to see it, under "Dana Carvey impersonates James Stewart". I have to say though, his Cary and Jimmy impressions are quite good. Kate just gets the traditional shaking head again (which makes no sense because the guys are both young).
