I was flipping through a magazine in the store...I can't remember which magazine though People's Greatest or something like that and I found a 3 page article on Kate. There was a picture in there I had never seen. She is playing tennis, right in the middle of a serve, she looks quite young maybe 1937 or 1940ish. Anyone seen this? I know my discription is great but it is on news stands now. There are a lot of really awesome people in in Fred, Ginger, Farrah etc

If we're talking about the same book- that compilation thing People did on deceased stars- then I think I've got the wrong picture, but there was one like the one you describe in the Barbara Leaming book (or that is at least where I first saw it), and I have seen it labeled 1940 or 1938 depending on the source. Possibly it's from the "I'm box-office poison and will just hang out at Fenwick for a while" days.

I'll run to the store after work and figure out if it was People or Life. I was in such a hurry yesterday I only had a second to flip through it. I saw Kate, got all excited and then had to put the mag away to check out.

Ummm honey, it would be great if you could give us the mag name or date or person on the cover haha Jess If this is what you are referring to, it is a perfect-bound, soft-cover issue published by PEOPLE mag called Great Lives Remembered: 55 stars, heroes and icons America Loved. Kate is included with her own story and featured in photos in the Cary Grant and John Wayne stories - and with a photo on the contents page. The magazine will be out for a while. The cover reads: "displayed until 10/01/2010."

yesss thats it. I just ran to Boarders to get the title. Have you seen it Judy? I'm assuming you have. The pic I'm talking about is in the top right hand corner on the last page of her tribute. I've never seen it before. I LOVE that picture lol

I've never seen it before. I LOVE that picture lol Yep. I have a copy. I've seen that tennis shot before in a couple of different variations. Great photo. She really did love the game - tennis, that is. Do you guys recall that funny thing she said in the Cavett interview. The context of the comment escapes me at the moment, but he said something about people admiring her or something similar and her way of pooh-poohing that was to say - and I'm paraphrasing: No, and I can tell you how you know. You can walk down the street and people say, "aren't you wonderful," but they'll look at you for five minutes on the tennis course and say, "oh, she can't play," and walk away. Then she laughed and said, "and it's withering."

The mystery solved! Yay I'll go to Borders ASAP and see how much it is. Amanda, don't worry, I too, am too cheap to buy stuff like that now that I'm a full time student again. How I miss my work days! lol my bet is that this thing will cost around AU$19.99 Jess
