A little nice storie from the net - little maybe but tells a great deal about Kate's personality - " The best tribute I've seen to her comes from Katharine Hepburn, who often visited the bedridden Barrymore in the 1950s: She was beautiful to look at ... Wonderful hair - strong hair, lots of it and well fixed. Exquisite skin. Not much make-up and eyes that, well, scared you to death sometimes, and at other times I'd look and think, 'Where have you been and what are the lives you have seen, and what really goes on in your mind' - because although she was a great actress and a great personality and had known everyone in the world, she had a very odd look about her. She was religious. She never talked too much about it, but I think she had great faith in - something .... I don't know what the dickens it was. A kind of faith in life, I think. She made you feel that there was something about the human race that was thrilling. ... I would go away and I'd always come back. And people would say to me, 'You're so nice to go and call on Ethel.' And I would think, 'How lucky I am to be able to see Ethel!' ... I always had a feeling of elevation at having been with her. Every time I went I would look at her and think, 'I might never see you again.' And yet there she was, sitting up in bed and looking as though something wonderful was in her future. (Peters p. 519)" www.forgottendelights.com/NYCsculpture/salute/SalutesJune.htmdon't you think ?

That's a great tribute. It's just a shame that the work of these great stage actors can never been seen again.

I thought for sure most of you knew about this...but....this quote is taken from an interview - or rather a commentary Kate spoke about Ethel Barrymore and it can be heard on an audio tape called: Katharine Hepburn A Tribute, narated by Geoffrey Giuliano. The tape is well worth it as it also includes a neat little latter day interview with Marvin Kaplan and an extended interview with John Dayton, plus snippets of Bob Hepburn and others. There will be things here you will be familiar with, as some of it is a sort of audio cut and paste - but these interviews are great to have. And the cherry on top is, of course, Kate talking about Ethel B. A beautiful piece that is longer than the quote dreamer posted. It really does give the lie to all those who have some pretty funny notions about KH. She speaks quite movingly and affectionately about her friend. If you are interested, below are 2 links. One is to Audible.com, where you can download the entire thing. The other is to Amazon, where you can order an audio cassette version. But I think the cassett is abridged. I have both versions. Have never listened to the audio tape so can't say what's been cut. The downloaded version is swell. Thanks for the link Judy - now I only need a VISA. I thought for sure most of you knew about this...but....this quote is taken from an interview - or rather a commentary Kate spoke about Ethel Barrymore ..... Now - I'm a bit confused. Not much though I thought we collect and share things from the internet too. And as you all know my English could be better, therefore I sometimes search for stuff so I can cut and paste it in - dislike to misquote. As we all have experienced - some uses this board as a source for their books

I didn't even know that the Kate quote about Ethel was out there. So it's nice to have it posted here. Judy
