Last night at 7:21PM PST I held a moment of silence for a certain actress who, 66 years ago, was killed in an airplane crash. Today, and for the next several days, would mark the aftermath to her tragedy. I'm sad -- was more so last night.
R.I.P. Carole Lombard Gable (1908-1942)

Awww Richard. That's cute.
I still have a moments silence on the 10th of December for Otis Redding. Redding was possibly the best soul singer ever...
but he was no Carole Lombard, thats for sure.
PS: I must say I LOVE your avatar. When I was a kid I had a blue blanky and was called Linus for awhile. Thank god it wore off though, I have to say.

Peanuts rule. Best. Cartoon. Ever.
I know I'm a bit late here, but you've ALL must've heard by now of the passing of Heath Ledger. He died Tuesday afternoon on January 22nd. He was only 28. You may remember him from the more recent Brokeback Mountain, but he also starred in lots more. I was first introduced to him in 10 Things I Hate About You -- check that movie out because I really liked him in that. He also starred in A Knight's Tale and played Mel Gibson's oldest son in The Patriot.
I must admit his death was very upsetting for me; not just because he was so young, but because I've seen many of his movies. I thought the guy showed promise. As far as I can remember I liked him in every film I've seen him in.
It's been three days now and I'm still shaken up.

I feel terrible about this, but I've been making Heath [Bar] jokes all week. They're not even good jokes. I'm the type that laughs at death... for the most part. See: Chuckles Bites the Dust. Mary Tyler Moore, anyone? Please somebody back me up here so I don't look like a complete ass.
In truth, it's really a tragedy. To be so young and really quite good. And his daughter, Matilda! Poor child.
I've liked a lot of his roles. 10 Things I Hate About You; a reworking of The Taming of the Shrew. See it.

Yeah, 10 Things I Hate About You was great - I prefer the Liz T./Richard B. one mind you, but as a contemporary affair 10 Things I Hate About You was great. It's a terrible loss. Not only was he hot, he was talented really, and had such promise - that's a damn rare thing these days. Hot..AND talented. Plus he's someone that actually, in a couple of his films, seems to have made good choices. Terrible shame, to the industry and his family. I can't say I've joked about it though I am the type to do that. I was at a funeral once for a great grandmother many moons ago, and started laughing uncontrollably because, as they lowered her casket into the grave I suddenly imagined her getting out of it and dancing a jig. It wasn't funny. It wasn't even likely. But oh boy. I just couldn't stop. At the same time, I'm oddly moved by certain deaths. When Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gee's died I was rather upset. I even shed tears. Which is odd, because I'm not that big a fan of the Bee Gee's. I just always thought that Maurice Gibb seemed sweet.

I laugh myself blue in the face at funerals and wakes, too. I've got a reputation for it. Here's the script to that episode of MTM that pretty much describes the need to laugh as a coping mechanism: www.twiztv.com/scripts/attic/marytylermooreshow-607.txtScroll down a bit and SIX FEET UNDER HILARITY ENSUES. What a waste of a life, though. I must say I was surprised when my friend IMed me and asked if I heard who died. I thought it was Britney Spears. Let's face it kids, that girl is on her 9th life. And she ain't even a kitty.

I can't say that I've seen many of Ledger's movies though I have heard good buzz about his performance in the upcoming THE DARK KNIGHT. It's such a shame he died so young.

all of this is very serious .. and i have suffered personal losses (parents, relatives, good friends) and ALL of them appreciated this episode of CHUCKLES /MTS and in particular, this line, this motto for life: "A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants." Thanks for posting this script!

THANK YOU for agreeing with me, Martha! And let's not forget this inspirational tidbit, too: "Remember Mr. Fee-Fi-Fo's little catch phrase, remember how when his archrival Senor Caboom would hit him with the giant cucumber and knock him down? Mr. Fee-Fi-Fo would always pick himself up, dust himself off and say, "I hurt my foo-foo." Life's a lot like that. From time to time we all fall down and hurt our foo-foo's." AAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAAA.

As they told it on the news - felt sad - what a waiste of such an talent human being. Only recently head I read an article about him and his works.
Must confess though - haven't seen any films with him yet - but will - be sure.
Only the entire media thing and all their speculations can almost make one sick in the stomack. They are nuts - really they are.

The hundreds of tributes a day after death... I think it's not OK. It's too trivial. I've seen 10 Things I Hate About You and Brokeback Mountain with Ledger . Both very good in their genres.

No I haven't - way to many of them are to trivial and they make me sad - so I don't look for them. I haven't watched the tributes, haven't looked for them. I found them looking for something else. I typed "Academy Award" and I got a few of HL tributes at many pages of search results. I think, that some of them can be well-made. But a man died and everybody who ever heard of him runs to their computer to make a clip. Sometimes I'd like to live in other times, when death was something treated with dignity. On the other hand, I wouldn't have a chance to know you all then.

Martha, I've been meaning to ask you this. Have you read the Judy Garland biography Get Happy? How much grains of salt should I take the book with?
