I am definitely into foreign movies. My favorites tend to be from Spain or Mexico (i.e. open your eyes -- the spanish version of Vanilla Sky which I thought was better than the American -- Talk To Her) or the Brazilian City of God. Sex and Lucia is also a great one... hmm.... Run Lola Run... Can't think of any others right now. I have a very eclectic taste in movies as well. Most of mine tend to be the independent and/or bizarre films... but I also secretly like romantic comedies and action flicks. Which reminds me, has anyone seen Mr. & Mrs. Smith? I was actually surprised at how much I liked the movie. I was pretty much going because Brad and Angelina were in it... but turns out the movie's actually good!

'City Of God' was amazing. Pretty intense... but amazing. And 'Run Lola Run' was great.

Yeah, City of God was probably one of the most disturbing movies I've seen... with the exception of A Clockwork Orange and 8mm... but, yeah, intense is a good word. Sad would be another.

Kubrick rules. Some may argue he's a perfectionist when it comes to shooting a scene, but whatever he is, he's amazing. No one can film a shot better than he can. 'A Clockwork Orange' was the first real gem I watched by him. That year I went Kubrick crazy. Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, Paths of Glory, Lolita, The Killing, Dr. Strangelove, and most recently 2001: A Space Odyssey. Now let me tell you, like the majority of audiences when it first came out, I was left more confused and irritated by that movie than any other film I saw that year. At the first viewing, I thought it was just O.K. That's it. Maybe if I watch it again I'll be able to see the intelligence of it all.

Yeah, I was completely bored by 2001. It's pretty to look at but that can only entertain me for about 15 minutes. Perhaps I need to watch it again but I doubt I'll take the time to do it. I did like The Shining, Lolita and A Clockwork Orange (no matter how painful it is to watch). I think that in order to be a great director, you have to be a perfectionist. Actually, to be great at anything. I love perfectionists.

Valles - yes, I'm a "world cinema" fan too, especially European movies and preferably in the original version. Luckily I speak quite a few languages, but even if it's a Chinese film say, I still prefer subtitles over dubbing any day. Cinema Paradiso has me in tears every time I watch it and Jean de Florette & Manon des Sources are 2 other favourites.
As for the ltop 3 lists, they go something like this:
Actor: Cary Grant, Richard Gere, Paul Newman Actress: Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Vanessa Redgrave Director: George Cukor, Claude Chabrol, Peter Greenaway
