Yes it's a pitty that kate is not considered in France as one of the most actress (for me she is !!!) in the world. Sorry my english is not very good and sometimes i don't write exactely my intentions. As the last time, i wanted to say, that before my revelation, i only knew audrey hepburn (because of Givenchy ...), i knew ther was a katharine but i am only de aware of her. However, when i discoverred kate, like she was the " seule et l'unique" (only one in french). How could we compare both ? Am I the only french ? Thanks for your welcome

Name: Shane. Sometimes spelt with the y, sometimes not. Favorite Films: (I own and love the following) Little Women Alice Adam's Stage Door Bringing Up Baby The Philadelphia Story Woman Of The Year Adam's Rib The African Queen Pat & Mike The Iron Petticoat Dont love the film, but love her in it Dest Set Suddenly, Last Summer Long Day's Journey Into Night Guess Who's Coming To Dinner The Lion In Winter The Glass Menagerie Rooster Cogburn On Golden Pond Favorite Performance: Comedy: Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, Adam's Rib or The African Queen Drama: Long Day's Journey Into Night, Suddenly Last Summer, The Lion In Winter. How I became a fan: I was 16. My mother 36 (I think). I walked through the lounge, my mother was watching On Golden Pond on tv, the scene where Happy Birthday is sung to Norman. I made fun of Katharine's voice and shaking..."Ha-a-py Birrrth-day toooo yoooou..." - voice trembling with her head, and my mother said 'Hey! Don't make fun of her! That's Katharine Hepburn. She's one of the best actresses ever'. Funny really because at the time mom wasn't even that big a fan. She was just defending her really because she thought she was lovely. Anyway, I stood, watching the scene after, and thought 'hey...this broad...she's really something'. I watched the rest of the movie. Loving it. Insisted mom hire the DVD. So she did. I saw the whole thing - loved it. Then saw The African Queen. Loved that too. I often say I met Katharine Hepburn on golden pond...and I feel I did. Sometimes I entertain myself with that. I'm, in a dingy fishing (I hate fishing but for this exercise...I love it). Katharine comes by. In her canoe. Rowing, and singing at the top of her lungs "I can't give you, anything but loooove, bay-be...". As she rows by me, her back toward me thus far, she notices me, and stops singing, a little shocked. "oh...(our eyes meet) hello".... Comments: She's the best. Happiness is Hepburn. I cannot get enough.

Great story Shane. That last bit reminds me of Richard's Bryn Mawr fantasy. My first KH film was OGP too. I can't remember what I thought at the time but I love it now and I'm still completely obsessed with Kate, so I guess it was a good viewing experience.

My first love was Kate - was about 6 years old - sitting in my pajama and got totally away. Watching Adam's Rib and moving closer and closer to the TV. Later my mom told me she had never seen me like this. Like shot and dead ear for anything else. Used to take the TV into my room when something was showed. Glad I found you Guy's to share things with. My favorite two ones are On Golden Pond and Long Day's Journey into Night. Also like The Lion in Winter. Find her adorable in Alice Adams. Love her expression in African Queen as they have managed the first ride on the River. And Boogie throwing her hat up after words. Like a little girl. But Adam's Rib is as you can tell very special to me. Think of it more than 30 years ago. Yauh

I'm so ashamed. My imagination was lacking back then anyways so the story really could've been improved. Shane's fantasy is so much better.

ooohh my first Kath experience was back in the 4th grade (almost 9) and it was Adam's Rib as well. It was love at first sight. It totally exists. Been in love ever since! *looks at Kate wallpaper and tiny hearts start spewing out of it*

Hi everybody *waving* I've been wanting to be part of this board forever - I've been lurking for quite a while now looking at all the wonderful pics you've posted here and enjoyed reading all the great stories and discussions. WONDERFUL!!! Great fun! Finally I'm a member!!! NAME: Anke FAVORITE FILMS: Desk Set, Alice Adams, Mrs. Delafield, Lion in Winter, Guess who's coming to dinner, Holiday, Bringing up Baby, Undercurrent & Song of love (i know .. *sigh*.. can't help it ) FAVORITE FILM OF ALL TIME: has to be ON GOLDEN POND (my absolut favorite of all favorite KAte films - I absolutely adore that one!!!) FAVORITE PERFORMANCE: COMEDY - Bringing up Baby DRAMA - Lion in Winter HOW I BECAME A FAN: hmm... good question .. I think my friends kinda dragged me into that one. I've always loved classical Hollywood and old movies but I had other favorite actors. I mean I liked Kate (show me ONE person who doesn't) and I've seen some of her movies, I especially remember seeing GOLDEN POND as a child and absolutely MAD loving it.. but it was never like "she's the GREATEST ever" (like today) - but then .. sadly .. I have to say .. then she died and one of my friends gave me the Berg Bio and the other one gave me the Prideaux book - and then I watched DESK SET and was hooked strange but true ...

Kate Remembered was the first book I ever read after Kate's death. That was what hooked me, and it still does. I am so fond of ON GOLDEN POND that if I were to create a list of my top 10 favorite films of the 1980s that movie would surely be on there.
Welcome Annie!
