Good question Martha! We could all write to the stamp commitee and suggest Kate Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee U.S. Postal Service 1735 N. Lynn Street (Ste. 5013) Arlington, VA 22209-6432 should we write individually, or send a petition? i wonder what has the most "heft" .. or counts most at the receiving end of this ... ONSLAUGHT OF INTEREST we would inspire

since we're adding pretty pictures here i'll add judy's stamp from 2006 and yes, its a scandal that kate has not yet been honored. the davis stamp just announced was timed to commemorate the centenary of HER birth ... we didn't get kate's going in time for this past year's commemoration ..but ... as elaine stritch told the story of little Brandon De Wilde at the opening night of A MEMBER OF THE WEDDING on broadway .. skipping down the hall .. knocking on the adult actor's doors, just before curtain up, shouting "its time! its time!" so .. .i guess, rather than get (justifiably) angry over the oversight .. we ought to marshall our forces and happily state the obvious. because, for kate .. jimminy crickets ... its time. I believe that ten years must pass from the time of a celebrity's death before the Post Office will entertain issuing a stamp. Naturally, often more than ten years pass - as with Bette and Judy and Bogie and others. When more than ten years have passed, they often do it to commemorate a special anniversary - like Bette's centennary.....Since Kate had only been gone 4 years at the time of her 100th, she would not have been eligible (though I wish they'd have made an exception). But I have no doubt that she will be given a stamp in the future. Can you believe that this June will be 5 years? Unbelievable.

thanks judy. guess i hadn't put the time line (decade delay post death) detail together before. i guess as these things go, this series is relatively young, historically speaking. so agitating over this as an oversight .. you're probably right. too soon for that. but letting the postal service know now, and repeatedly, that we're waiting and expecting this to happen, in its own time. at the appropriate time? sure. perhaps i'll write such a note right now, and use one of my many many judy stamps from this same series (with the now-necessary extra postage)

Writing can't hurt.

here's another dimension of this question: what image would you propose serve as a model for the stamp/portrait artist working on Kate's stamp? At least in the case of the Judy stamp, there is a very specific image from a publicity portrait sitting in 1954 for A Star Is Born that was used as the basis for her 2006 stamp. If you had a vote, which image would you propose be used as a basis for Kate's commemorative stamp? If you don't have a particular image in mind (but I'm sure we all could come up with 3 or 50), which era/movie/play/situation would you propose?

It's such a hard question. I must think about it longer. But I know which era would fit for me the most. BUB, TPS or WOTY time. I think Kate looked the most beautiful and powerful in these years.

OKAY...here goes...Hope I got this posting stuff right and that you can see the images... Here are some off the cuff that I love. Have always loved this one: ... AND this one: Would LOVE to see this one, but don't think they'd ever use it: Another they'd never choose, but possibly the most beautiful: Ultimately, I think that this might be the perfect one. Stunning and in her prime:

Judy, I also thought about the last one. It's the photo I used in my first signature because it's great. I love photo from Life cover, too. This is one of the most popular, so maybe it has big chances: I regret that my favorite photo isn't good for the stamp:

Yeah...like this website! Good to see you've gotten into the picture posting game Judy. There is a wealth of lovely Kate pictures. I'd be happy with any of them.
