OK, I just want to defend the eighties. The eighties were totally rad. Yeah, big hair is kind of gross... but the Flashdance shirts! Converse! Oh yeah. Actually, I just like the milleniumified eighties look. If I had to wear that school uniform, I would totally wear leggings with Converse under my skirt. ;D Or maybe ballet flats... Do you like the skirt with jean trend? So many people hate it but I actually think it can be cute. I wore the hell out of that last year. One lady looked at me and was like "Is that a skirt or a dress?" with this completely confounded look on her face. It was hilarious. It's kind of fun confusing people with your clothing.

Catherine, you remind me of some girl I know; she confuses me with her clothes too.
Holy Houghton..ha, I'll have to use that one!

I'm with you Catherine - I love most things that are a bit different. I like the dress/skirt over trousers thing too. There were some really awful things in the 80's, but there were a lot of cool stuff, and I like the way they've recently been incarnated.
The thing I don't like about our generation is that we aren't original. We don't set our own trends, we just re-hash old ones. It doesn't bother me that much because I like a lot of the older trends myself, it's just a shame that we probably aren't going to be remembered for having a prominent individual style.

Gem -- I agree. But when you think about it, what else is there to invent?? Ever since the seventies, people have been reincarnating fashion. It's all been done. So now we just mix different eras together and tweak the design/fabrics. Hopefully polyester doesn't make a come-back.

I see what you mean. I just find it hard to believe we've seen everything, that there is nothing new out there. That would be very sad.
I used to enjoy making my own clothes. I wish I still had the time for it. I'm sure polyester won't be making a comeback. Who on earth could possibly think that would be a good idea?!

Polyester - please don't let it make a come back . Its torture in hot climates . And I can't imagine Katharine ever wearing polyester - she had too much good taste .

Didn't she mock the leisure suits of the 70s? They advertised that they didn't need ironing and she said that hell yes they do!<those are my words. PS: I didn't want to make it seem like I was bashing the 80s. I do think a lot of its ideas about fashion were great...but I grew up in the 90s and really haven't experienced the awesomeness of crimped hair and swatches...

Crimped hair is awsome! But I don't know how good I look with it... I decided, fashion wise, I should've been born in the 80's, or the 20's loved the crazy styles. I just got a pair of converse a couple months ago. Back to the leisure suits, I think Kath did mock them in the 70's. I'm pretty sure I would've

I just wanted to say that: I used to have crimped hair and swatches. And neon shirts, biker shorts and multi-layered neon socks with Reeboks. OOOH yeah. God the eighties was grand... I have a Christmas picture of me with crimped hair, a velvet black dress with white lace skirt, lace tights and patent leather Mary Janes. Why did my mother let me out of the house? Sorry, I realize that topic is almost a year old but hey, I just saw it.
PS That is awesome that you have the same plates as Kath! I amost had a stroke when I saw she had the same rubber bendy rabbit sitting on her kitchen table as I had when I was a kid.

2 nights ago I ordered some Kate clippings from ebay. I'm not sure what years they are from though, but they are pretty rare.
