Very cool! So is it a canvas print? That's what it looks like. How big is it?

Yes, it's on canvas, but it isn't that big. It looked a lot bigger in the window, but it's only about A3 size. I am pleased to have found it though, and it certainly is different.

The dress thing is really interesting because for the first couple of years in Hollywood Katharine was clearly experimenting with clothes and when she wore a dress she often looked uncomfortable . There was a few fashion disasters there And the sometimes quoted story that Spencer put pressure on Katharine to wear a dress - I don't believe that was the usual case although there might have been a few times when wearing trousers caused too much of a hassle. Of course wearing a dress would be uncomfortable for a tomboy -- or anyone really. They're a pain in the ass. You have to pay attention to how you're sitting at all times (unless you're one of those people who doesn't really care ). I think the story about Spencer Tracy might be a little dramatized as well. I'm sure he didn't prohibit her from going out if she didn't wear a dress (I don't think anyone could prohibit her from doing anything -- but Spencer came pretty close I'm sure). If she only had one or two dresses, I highly doubt she would have worn those two dresses so many times. Or maybe they didn't go out that often. ;D

Or as she pointed out in the Prideaux book (I'm busily re-reading it), when they were attending a theatre-in-the-round performance somewhere, one of the reasons she didn't like wearing skirts was that you can see right up them, as with the ladies sitting opposite - LOL

THAT is SO TRUE!!!! How many times do I have to sit on the floor in my school gymnasium and have like 260 girls around me wearing skirts and laying down and being all stupid mod-like and I can see from here to Tahiti-Ugh....just Noooooooooo...Kate's quote: "I think the short skirt is really fundamentaly hideous." Damn right it is....only if you can wear it correctly and sit up-right is it not.

Karina -- I think I remember actually laughing out loud when I read that. But I've been doing that a lot with this book (but not quite as much as I did with The Making of the African Queen). Skirts are a rather asinine invention but they are asthetically pleasing (on some people anyway). What's even funnier to me is that a lot of girls (here anyway) wear short skirts with full knowledge that their bums are hanging out -- they just make sure they're wearing cute underwear. lol

Haha, yeah, but is it warmer where you are? Cus, it's now reached a low of 10 degrees here and girls are still wearing little loincloth short skirts....with sandles...but w/o the socks! I'm beginning to suspect that I sound like a total fashion catastrophe on here...I'm not, Really!

LOL Amber, No... with the exception of socks with sandals (which is only being excused because of Kate), you don't sound like a fashion catastrophe... Really ... you don't ;D Yeah, it's about 10 degrees here as well. We just got a foot of snow. It's gorgeous until you have to get in your car and drive in it. I don't know how Kate swam in weather like that. But, yeah, speaking of crazy teens (man, am I getting to that age already?), whenever I go to the mall (which is something I try to avoid at all costs) the kids walk around with short skirts and walk into the mall with no coat on (I remember those days --we were so stupid).

Where I am, you often see skirt-cladded ladies of all ages wearing hopelessly unfashionable popsox and so you get an awful gap of bare knee between said popsox & skirt hem when they sit down - and they think they're so trendy. Yuk!!
Personally, I can count the number of skirts/dresses I've worn in my entire life on the fingers of one hand. Trousers are soooo comfortable, and can be perfectly dressy when the occasion warrants it.

Karina, I agree. Trousers can actually look sexy when dressed up. I went to a wedding a couple months ago and decided to wear slacks -- they were dressy though -- like, greyish dress pants. Anyway, I didn't want to wear a dress! So, I tell a friend of mine what I wore to this wedding and she's like, "You didn't wear a dress?! You're supposed to wear a dress to weddings" How did I not know this rule? I've been to many weddings -- but I guess I wore dresses/skirts to all of them. Oh well, even if I knew about it I probably would have worn a dress anyway. I'm glad I did. Wedding receptions can get crazy.

Because I'm anal and don't want to look dumb modifying my last post again...that's an *I'll up ther, kay? Kool. Lok <just kidding. Heh. Um-yee-haw I'm back! TMU..that'll be in another post. Anyway, back to the previous topic. I wear a short skirt 5 days a week-but I guess my school uniform doesn't count. Oh well. Uniform skirts are physically impossible to look good in, unless you have like no hips. They don't lay right on anybody and you're forced to walk funny all day because they're made out of this clingy, scratchy material...So, that's why I've developed an aversion to the short skirt. Plus, they only look right on people with long legs-I'm too tiny. Boo. Karina- Trends are icky-they can scar a generation-just look at the 80s-crazy man. But I do love me some slacks and pretty, longer skirts. I dress rather-well I just like to look feminine-not that you can't look it and be it in slacks-Hi again Kate. And thanks, Catherine, for that lovely and reassuring comment. You rock.
