Besides Kate's autobio which biography of Kate would you deem the best, or are there a few you think are good?
I think Kate Remembered is really good since it was someone who knew her that wrote it.
Anyway, I bought bios on Kate by Anne Edwards and Charles Higham, any good? I've heard bad things of Anne Edward's Judy book so I was wondering your thoughts on them.

yeah yeah .. i've read most of 'em too. and 'kate remembered' was a kind of balm right after kate's passing, wasn't it in a way? but in part because its the most recent thing i've read in this vein, and partly because i agree with the sentiment expressed ... i'll quote from AT HOME WITH KATE (2007) on this topic. p. 196
"A few weeks after KATE REMEMBERED came out, Mom [Norah] unexpectedly received a copy from Scott with a note saying he hoped it would bring back to her a few good memories of their dear friend. Everyone in and out of Kate's circle asked Mom what she thought of the book. Of course Norah was appreciative of Scott's hard work and his gift, but she was reserved in her commentary. She would say, 'For the best read on Kate, march down to the local bookstore and pick up a copy of ME. Kate worked so hard on that -- and that's the truth."
Add to that ... Kanin's amazing book which is reportage of Kate's persona in a stunning way (which we talk about in other threads) .. I'm kind of with Norah here.

I got the Berg book right after Kate's passing hoping to get some insight into her final years, which I felt were mystery clouded, and to assuage my grief. I loved the real daily life stories of Kate but felt the book should have been titled SCOTT REMEMBERED or ALL ABOUT SCOTT. I think there was a little bit of self interest on both their parts in the relationship. I don't think he was sensitive to Kate's difficulties in her final years. As Kate often said aging was hell. I think she held up pretty good considering her exuberant life. Decades and decades of go go go. I was especially off put by the final pages about his imagining Kate at a Bryn Mawr dance. Like she would have cared about those things. I got the feeling that there was some detachment from him by Cynthia McFadden and I can certainly understand why Cynthia might have felt that way. Kate summed it up best when seeing Scott's house in Los Angeles saying "How can you live in a house without a fireplace?" I do envy his sharing life with "Our Kate" but couldn't imagine not one person on this board that wouldn't walk through fire to have the honor of being with Kate at her last breath.

i'm hunting around in our old threads for one on ME .. we talk about it all the time in threads .. including some over the past few days! .. but i'm not spying one here. exclusively about ME. point me to it, you old hands here, if there is one. i'm still a relative newbie .... and sometimes lost in the forest. ... hee hee. so ... short of starting one myself ... i'll add here .. i'm re-reading it for the first time since i read it when it first came out in 1991. oh my, and i do note that mine is a first edition (pays to get out there and purchase books you care about when they first arrive on the shelves, and look through the pile for the first editions ) .. why is it that the patter from Judy at Carnegie Hall keeps going through my head .. when saying while preparing to sing a kinda jazzy ballad "we do a kind of strip tease rhythm ... we don't do it we just talk about it" .. ah, Judy. So ... whatever .. I'm gunna refresh my old brain cells with new glimpses of Kate's words. Sigh. Rapture.

I have maybe.... 6....7?.....copies of ME? One is 1st Edition. Let me paint a scene for you: "So, ya like Katharine Hepburn? Jerry! Jerry? Didjoo hear? Our niece likes Kate Hepburn! Yeah, I know... that's damned unpredictable for a kid her age... Yeah, I didn't tell you when I bought her X-mas gift. I know, Jerry, she's always liked the classics, but.... Oh, go eat your Jell-O mold---ANYway, I loved her movies with Spencer Tracy." And that's when I unwrap yet another copy of ME. I cross my heart, that discourse happens between various aunts and uncles of mine every X-Mas. Clockwork. Anyway. ME. I coulda sworn we had a thread devoted to it and here you go: katethegreatnet.proboards27.com/index.cgi?board=books&action=display&thread=586Aptly named 'Kate's autobiography.' Your eyes must've glossed over it.... you might not have missed it if we had one called "Virtue, LOVE, F123ing The Roots, 4 Oscars, Theatre, Lyrebirds and Listening to the Song of Life: Me." Maybe I'll make it yet.
