Has anyone read this? I just finished it today and found it to be a good account of Spencer's career and to a lesser extent, his personal life; I learned a lot about him. Obviously this book doesn't put as much focus on his relationship with Kate as does Kanin's book, but his life without her was pretty interesting too. I admire his style so much and I think he was the greatest of all actors--better than Gable and Bogart, and he's my favorite.

Unfortunately its the only biography of Spencer and is quite good . The Davidson biography is not accurate .
There is another biography of Spencer being written right now

I read this book six years ago for the first time. I liked it, but I wasn’t so interested in old movies then. Now, when I read it a few times more, I can say it’s great. That’s a fact, Swindell doesn’t focus on Kate-Spence relationship. But when he writes about it, he does it wonderful. There are many parts I adore. I can’t quote (I have Polish edition) but I’ll mention the part (beginning of the 1960-1966 chapter) when Kate describe relationship between characters she and Tracy play. And the part, when she persuade Spence to get into the plane to Berlin. And, absolutely favourite, when they are on the set GWCTD. Spence doesn’t see her, but he knows she doesn’t sit like a lady. I don’t know if you get, which parts I mean, but I have problems with explanations in English. Silly me

I understand every adorable situation you're talking about!
She says she'll hold his hand the whole way to Berlin and then kisses him on the cheek in PUBLIC (albeit, in a corner, but still.). Why are they too adorable for words? In any known language! *sigh* Love love love love them.

I know that Larry Swindell wrote a book on Carole Lombard and been wanting to purchase that for months. I'll have to see if I can find this book too. Strange how I never thought before to buy a book on Spencer Tracy.

I bought used Polish edition of this book for 5 zlotys. It's... 2 dollars, even less! Can you imagine? I'm happy to find it because I don't have any chance to get many Kate's or Spencer's biographies in Poland.
