Way to make me feel OLD, you guys! :-)
I find this so fascinating. Here I was, enamored of her since I was a kid and you KIDS (and I say that affectionately) never even heard of her till after she died.
Come to think of it, there's sort of a parallel to my experience. Cause she stopped making movies (or so everyone thought) in 1962 - when I was 8 years old (no laughing!). And when I was that young, I was going to the movies with my parents, but MARY POPPINS and MY FAIR LADY was more the fare. So I had no idea who she was either when I first saw her in what I was only later to discover was her RE-emergence. And to me as a 13 year old, it was like discovering a totally new actor. Had no idea when I went to see GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER that she was one of the majors....But all it took was those 2 hours in the theatre and I was hooked. And then in less that a year's time I knew. Boy did I know.....I became a student of Hepburn - as you guys are now..... And we're still learning about her, still discovering, still mourning, still laughing and crying....with all those people in the dark.....

Hi Richard, Yes, Larry King did two programs around Kate. One was an interview with her niece Katharine Houghton on 6/19/2003 a few weeks before Kate died and the other was on 6/30/2003 called a Tribute to Katharine Hepburn. You can read both transcripts by going to the following website: www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/larry.king.live/index.htmlThen click on Transcripts - Larry King Live and scroll down to the the two dates I mentioned 6/19/2003 or the encore date for it which was 6/29/2003 and the other date for the Kate Tribute which was 6/30/2003 At the bottom of each transcript there is listed a website where you can purchase the transcripts on video tape. They are about $30.00 each and it takes awhile to get them. Approx. 6 weeks. They are just a tape of the show as it goes out on CNN -- no extras or anything. I recently bought one of them so this information is current. The Kate Tribute is quite touching as it includes comments by Kate's brother, Bob and Spencer Tracy's daughter, Susie plus many other people who knew and loved Kate. Plus it is filled with excerpts from her films which are always a pleasure to see. Hope this helps. Sherry

Sometimes I'm glad that I didn't become a fan of hers until after her death; If I had been as addicted to her as I am now, I would have been depressed for days when I had heard she had died! But then again, I've missed out on a lot of great things because of my tardiness to the world of Katharine Hepburn.

Wow somehow I missed this thread and its last seven posts lol So to answer Judy's question: I took notice of her after my dad recommended Berg's book. I knew nothing about her other than that she was in Bringing Up Baby but I remember her catching my attention when I was younger (like 7 or 8) because she stood out from the other Hollywood actresses. She seemed like a tough girl but she was still "feminine." I never pursued learning anything more about her because, well, I was seven and was more fascinated by Shirley Temple. I was at the age where I would only watch movies if they contained children my age and I guess Shirley Temple amazed me because she was so young and was a star. She could also dance which I loved. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I've said this a million times already but after reading that biography I was captivated by everything he said. I couldn't put the book down. I think I read it in about three days but only because I couldn't read it for 24 hours straight Not only was she physically beautiful, she seemed to have held every quality I admire in a person -- independence, will-power, integrity, intelligence, a wicked sense of humor, a positive approach to life.... among many others. So, after reading that book, I had only seen TPS and BUB which of course I had to rewatch with this new view of KH. It became an obsession for me to find every movie I could possibly find that she was in... and every book ;D I can't say I've ever been influenced like that by a celebrity. And Shaun, I'm with you. I think there are positive and negatives sides to becoming a fan after her death. I would have to take a few sick days if she was still alive and I found out she died tomorrow If I had been a fan while she was alive, I probably would have written to her although I would probably sound like every other enamored fan and would end up looking foolish ;D Anyway, I sooo envy Judy! I wish I was born in an era where I could have gone to see a KH movie when it was released in theaters or to have been able to see her in plays and to have that chance to meet her in person (even if you don't get a word out and can't remember what the hell you even talked about ;D). And to walk her to her car! Must have been heaven.

Sherry, thanks for the links ! I just finished reading the one that was aired 10 days before her death. It's heartbreaking... She talked about Kate being in decent health and she died a few days later. Did anyone notice they referred to Spencer as "Unidentified Male" during the movie clips? lol I thought that was funny especially since most of the conversation is about Spencer Tracy. And the part about her looking "absolutely asinine." I can totally picture Kate saying that. I was cracking up. That part and the part where Katharine Houghton wants to go out with her friends and Kate tries to make it look like she's started a war by not showing up for dinner one night. Now I guess I'll read the June 30th one.....

OK, I just finished the June 30th transcript... and Kat Kramer says she is the one who got Kate to do Love Affair and Scott Berg says he's the one... hmmm. Maybe it was a joint effort. Also, I didn't know Schuyler Grant did a movie with Katharine Hepburn. Anyone know which one it is?

The interview was actually conducted about 6 months before it was aired . I assume it was put off for some reason and during that time Katharine's health went downhill .
I just love Kathy Houghton's stories about Spencer - especially when he came to visit the Hepburn family .

Ah, thanks Shaun.
I can't stand watching interviews with Larry King because he constantly interrupts... Even in the transcript it was annoying but I found it awesome that Kathy Houghton just finished her sentence anyway.

Hi guys... I actually have quite a lot of different news footage about her death from CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC etc...I can remember exactly what I was doing that day even though I was about 15 years old...I had just come home from my cousin Erin's baby shower and when I turned on the TV I saw the headlines and starting crying for the next hour or so...I started to tape everything about her I could... I just wish I could figure out how to convert from my VHS to put the footage on my computer to share...If anyone could help me I would so appreciate it...I really would love to share what I have...I have the Kathy Houghton Larry King show and the group show with Susie, Robert Wagner etc...I also have some specials like the People in the News segment and also the Katie Couric special...and an interview with Dick Cavett...and so much more...
