I bought this today!! Never saw it before in a store here. Didn't think it was rated for our audiences (as most films aren't damnit) and therefore wasn't released. But allo there chap!!
So excited. I'm about to watch it soon.

Well. I did like it. Loved it, in fact. It WAS odd though. It took me awhile to figure out what the "terror" that those frankly rude and disruptive people were trying escape. I figured that out at the end.
It was quite a strange film/play. Similar to Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? (god I love Liz Taylor!) It makes you feel extremely strange, and you sort of detach from it in some way because you can't quite relate - but there's a feeling like you know you will one day, so by default you sympathize. It's a strange thing. I don't know how to explain it.
The film was great though. Very much enjoyed and Kate was splendid, though didn't have an awful lot of screen time really. She wasn't one of the really central figures in the story. But yeah.
5/5

ya know, you're the first person I've heard of that flat-out loved ADB at their first shot at it. Congratulations. Alyssa dear, it's heavy stuff and quite wordy, but I'm not saying you can't handle it. But honestly, it took me like, 4 times to understand one layer of what Albee was saying. I'd rent Mrs. Delafield Wants to Marry over this one first. THAT MOVIE IS A GOOD TIME.
I can't believe Edward Albee is the same man who wrote The Goat Or Who Is Sylvia?. Quality play, The Goat.
"MY HUSBAND IS A GOAT-F**KER."
WHAT IN THE NAME?

WHAT IN THE NAME? albee is quite something. was in town here in chicago a few weeks ago ... i think he's genius. not every single word he's ever written .. but for WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF, THE GOAT, and a smattering of others ... he deserves forever theatre righteous human being status. in my humble opinion.

I love Who Is Afraid of Virginia Woolf. One ot the movies that fling you to the ground and trample on your head - but you don't want to stand up at all...
I've never seen ADB. I have it but without any subtitles so I'm waiting for them. After reading your posts I know, I probably wouldn't understand this movie even with subtitles. Well, I wouldn't know what characters are talking about. But I'd know what words they are using. It's something. I'd really like to see it...

Kama - am affraid that you will have to wait too long for the subtitles as there is no DVD with subtitles on the marked (that is as far I'm aware of) and with your English skills you will understand it - am sure ;D

Well, I count on people who make subtitles "outside" the official market. But my hope isn't huge. I thought about a play - maybe I'll find the way to read it. The movie would be understandable then. I did it with The Glass Menagerie.

And to those, I'll add the sensational THREE TALL WOMEN and ... A DELICATE BALANCE. This last has grown in my estimation over the years. I really think it belongs with his best.....In a few weeks, I'm going to see his new one - ME, MYSELF & I - that's at the McCarter now.

Wow. A lot of action on this thread in 24 hours.
I loved Virginia Woolf! I think it's such a shame Albee was so dismayed by that film. He sounds like a bit of a moaner to me, mind you.
But yeah, A Delicate Balance was fantastic. I'd watch it now if I wasn't for the fact that I'm a bit hungover.
I've definitely seen better days. But then, haven't we all?
The thing I love most about Albee is how he writes people. He manages to write great plays (well the two I've dealt with) about almost nothing it seems, and perfectly capture characters and lives that seem totally real(istic).

I was not prepared for A DELICATE BALANCE. Everything in this movie went right over my head. It's not one I will revisit soon. However, I'm planning on having a Kate marathon, watching everything from A BILL OF DIVORCEMENT to LOVE AFFAIR skipping nothing so ADB is on my docket. Of course none of this will happen until I secure a copy of PETTICOAT, RUINS, and CHRISTMAS.
