Having not seen this one, I have to ask? ...
Is it as bad as Kate made out?

No, I don't think so Have the DVD - liked it a lot. My expectations weren't great as I bought it, so maybe that is why I got to like it - it was better as I thought and had heard of. Found the film charming. Nothing like A Woman Rebels 1936 or Christopher Strong 1933, which are from about the same time. Not the greatest story nor the best Kate film. But liked it :-) Definitive worth a watch! Do you have region 2 as we have in Europe or have a play all DVD Player? If so - you can order the DVD from DVDGO in Spain (they have an English site too) and are reasonable in price. Or if you receive TCM - Shaun posted the may Scedule from TCM here katethegreatnet.proboards27.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=1167158950

Only 3 Kate films have disappointed me: Spitfire, Quality Street, and A Delicate Balance. I wasn't expecting DB to be so talky, but I'll probably give it another chance. As for the other two, I'll probably watch them again someday but not soon.

i FINALLY saw this movie yesterday, on TCM many enchanting moments, and many moments ya wanted to haul off and clobber mr. tone's character. ... surprises included eric blore (who i adore from his bantering roles as waiters and butlers and dancing school managers in astaire - rogers vehicles of course) .. and estelle winwood. Estelle Winwood as Mary Willoughby [after sniffing the air] "Susan, I have no wish to alarm you, but I am of opinion that there is a man in the house."

I really like this movie. I think it gets a bad rap, I found myself laughing at many points and the costumes are to die for.

Well, at the risk of being accused, once again, of thinking that Miss H never (rarely, did you say? I say never) gave a bad performance on film: I agree with you about Quality Street. But I guess with all the gunfire and hip, slangy screwballs of the day, it was considered passe even then. A shame. She's lovely in the movie, and it has the touch of a great director. Not their greatest film together, but certainly nothing to be ashamed of either.
