i just re-watched this film .. very 'of its time' (fear of fascism wise) .. and timeless. spence's first appearance in this movie, in the rain, standing with mourners [and i won't rehash plot) .. .just took my breath away. always does at any age . but in full resonant black and white gorgeousness. both of them. yikes. then came right back to this thread and was reminded of all the beauteous picture gifts here. i guess i just came to gush ...

I absolutely love this film. I know it's not really known as one of their "bests," but I still love it and find it sort of underrated. The whole story is very true to the time period, and I love the relationship that develops between Kath and Spence in the film. I really wish this was on DVD, but I highly doubt it will come out anytime soon sadly. I think Kate looks GORGEOUS in it too. Her hair is stunning! And the dresses GAH. Amazing!

There must be two trailers for KOTF because I never in all my years have seen this one. I would just like to say George Cukor seems hell-bent on depriving us of filmed Tracy&Hepburn goodness. www.tcm.com/mediaroom/index.jsp?cid=33767dot dot dot dot WHY EDIT OUT THAT DECLARATION OF LOVE?!?! Although, that whimper-y noise that comes out of Kate kind of fouls up Spencer's line, imho. Oh.............rats.

Haha I know....quite a funny whimpery noise Thanks for the trailer though! Never seen that one before. Can I just say I really wish this movie was out on DVD??? I love it. I know there's not as much romance in it, but the story is so good and the end is amazing. Gah, guess I'll just have to settle for VHS...boo!!

A blog post I wrote about Keeper of the Flame: khepthegreat.blogspot.com/2009/08/keeper-of-flame.htmlI just bought this film on VHS from Amazon. I just figured out how to record DVD-R so I am hoping to change it over to a DVD... and I would like to try to put it on YouTube for those who haven't seen it since it is hard to find.

I think Keeper of the Flame is underrated. Among other things, I think it has one of Spencer Tracy's best performances. From what I understand the script went through quite a lot of changes and many of them included the motivation of Kate's character, which is perhaps why her performance isn't the strongest she'd ever given. But it's pretty darned good and I, too, like the atmosphere and the supporting players. It's a solid movie. Nice blog, by the way.

Thank you, Judy! I am glad you like the blog. And I quite agree that KOTF should be given more recognition.
