I LOVE that scene. Showcases Kate's ability to be subtly vulnerable. You wouldn't think that I would becuase, hi, she's about to cheat on Spencer. Poor Lutie.

I'm watching it now. I haven't had English subtitles before. I didn't expect much but it seems nice. But I saw only a half an hour. I like some lines Jeff: She ate one [biscuit]. She knew what she was eating. Jim: Tougher than whang leather. She can lie faster than a dog can trot.
Lutie: I’m scared. Jim: You’re scared? What do you think the boys are?
Jeff: Don’t you worry about them little trees. They’re skinny, but they’re awful stuborn.
Lutie: Women like to talk a lot. Jim: Yes, I know.
Jim: This kid better look like you, or I’ll drown it.
Lutie (gives a rooster to Molly while Chamberlain is at Halls): I brought a present for little Molly. His name is Redeye Son-Of-A-Gun. EDITED: I’ve watched it. I’m not very into “Keep the catlle out of my wheat” stories, but it was OK. I can’t say I loved it, but there are many good scenes. The story of love and family was fine.A little weird, but fine. The story of grass... well, not my type. Good acting, good Kate-Spence interaction in it. I like for example the scene when a boy is born and Jim gets to know, that Lutie cheated on him. And the look he gives her in next scene, when a layer talks about Chamberlain. I was sort of sorry for Brice. This movie is so sad... Jim: When do you want to leave, Lutie? Lutie: I don’t want to leave. Jim: Then when are you going to leave? And this fantastic line: SHE'S ONE IN A THOUSAND. NO ONE ELSE WILL EVER BE LIKE HER.Well, SOG and KOTF are probably my least favorite Kate-Spence movies (now I’ve seen all 9 of them), but it doesn’t mean they are bad.

Oh, it is indeed a terribly sad story. I mean, the relationship between Lutie and Bruton was painful 2/3rds of the time. Resentment. Oddly enough, this was my second KathnSpence movie. I didn't understand the full scope of what was going on at the time, but even then I could feel the deep hurt that the characters were causing each other/feeling. And this exchange that Kama pointed out: Jim: When do you want to leave, Lutie? Lutie: I don’t want to leave. Jim: Then when are you going to leave?STAB. That whole scene in the tack room is terribly sad. Seperations must suck. I wonder if the book is really any better than the script. Besides, isn't that what drew KH and St to the thing? I was in the library today and came upon this long interview with Elia Kazan about SOG. Boy, did he have sour grapes. I don't blame him, but I do think it was rather dumb to put him on as director. Him being green and whatnot. Maybe tomorrow I'll go back and post some snippets of it.

I just received and watched SOG.... I ordered it from Amazon a few days ago...I have one more Kate and Spence film I haven't seen yet...KOTF...I've ordered that one too...I hope it comes soon lol I don't want to spoil it...but, I really liked it...although up until the end I was getting a bit depressed...;( I loved Kate with the children...I think all the films where she is either a mother or with children she's great...I go into a fantasy world where she and Spence really had a child...I think of Cynthia ...she looks so much like them...anyway going into a tangent lol It wasn't like the other "funny/battle of the sexes" Kate/Spence films it was...heartwarming at times but also very serious...great acting...and lovely costumes...Kate was so thin It's hard to believe that she had those children cause in the next few frames she was a rail again...lol I would advise this film to anyone...to complete their Kate/Spence film run...it's a very good movie...not their best but...very good!

I've read the book and it was dull. It was narrated by some character left out of the movie entirely (Jim's nephew), and Jim and Lutie had two kids (including a son) before the affair, so it changes the dynamics a bit. I honestly thought the movie was better.
KH was gorgeous in the movie. If we could all look so good at 40!

I just love the visuals in this movie. This is one of my all-time fave Kate costumes. She looks so young and gay, her hair like that and the awesome bodice... And one more thing- does anyone else think Spencer has, like, three facial expressions in this movie? He looks soooo bored...One of the few performances of his I really dislike (actually the only, come to think of it), but then the character wasn't very interesting either. Someone suggested he should have played Douglas's part- could have been interesting. Spencer's performance can be summed up like this: "My wife is a hoor..." "Ooh, look at me, I'm wearing a cowboy hat! Yeah! I'm MANLY!" "I am going to strangle whoever cast this movie." "And I'll be right behind you, Spence!"

I just finished this movie and I'm suprised to say I REALLY liked it. Yes a better director could have helped and perhaps if Spencer wasn't drinking so much his performance would have been stronger, but it was a good story. Great costumes and good acting on KH's part. It was intressting enough to keep my attention unlike Mary of Scotland...

I don't know if it was due to his drinking so much as he was really bored with the whole thing. Can't say I blame him...he didn't have much to do but a) be mad at Kate and b) not be mad at Kate. Not that he was terrible...he was almost incapable of terrible, methinks. But Kate did steal the picture.

This was the second film I watched in the recent Kate & Spence set, and I didn't know it wasn't supposed to be a very good film. Granted I wouldn't put it in the top 100 films of all time or anything, but I thought it was better than it seems to get credit for being. It's flawed, for sure - it's a little overlong and spends too much time telling the story of what a troublemaker Brock became. I found Lutie, Jim, and Brice's story far more compelling. But it has beautiful moments, such as that scene where Jim comes to Lutie at night while she's standing in that sea of grass and she tells him that she wishes he looked at her the way he looks at that.
