What do any of you know about Katharine Hepburn film projects that didn't come to fruition? Off the top of my head, Travels with my Aunt and The Millionairess come to mind and I guess she'd have been great in either.
What about the claim that Bette Davis was earmarked to star with either Kate or Audrey Hepburn in The Killing of Sister George? I guess Bette would have played the Beryl Reid role, but I somehow can't see Kate in Susannah York's role.
Any others you can think of?

A Bette Davis-Katharine Hepburn pairing would have been great. She wanted to do Mourning Becomes Electra with Greta Garbo; I imagine that it would have been great, seeing as how Eugene O'Neill wrote it (Long Day's Journey Into Night)...I think.
Man, when I think of all the great actors KH came so close to working with! By the way, has anyone ever noticed that Kate worked with more famous men than women? I wonder what that was? I guess when you've got Katharine Hepburn you don't need any other women in your movie ;D

After reading some KH biographies, you begin to get a sense of how eager she was to work with Garbo; I wonder if she felt the same about working with Bette Davis?

I think Kate held Garbo in very high regards and probably couldn't compare her to Bette Davis. She seemed to practically worship her. That would have been a great pairing. I noticed that a lot of actresses in old movies were rarely paired with another famous one... It seemed like two or more famous male actors could work together. Maybe they didn't want diva overkill. I hardly see Kate as being a diva... maybe a little bossy but not a diva. Could be a contract thing too. I don't know enough about the workings of the old time studios to give even a theory... So I guess I can stop rambling ;D

It's very stealthy :
François Chalais interviewed Preston Sturges at the Festival de Cannes.
He just said : "I was in London to shot a movie with Kate, the millionairess of Shaw. She made this play on stage with a huge success, thanks god. I believe the movie will be release soon, but we need such many english actors ! The movie is ade of three part so in order to each part shall be as good as other, we need three stars in order to Katharine acts with one star in each scene. And find three stars free for the moment is difficult." Finally he talked about a project with Guiness in Ireland.

In the Greta Garbo book I'm reading it touches on the Joan of Arc project. King Kong producer Merian C. Cooper was making Technicolor tests of Katharine for a possible Joan of Arc project. Garbo lamented the fact that she was doing it and said that it was the one project she really wanted to do. The project never materialized for either actress. In the same book it mentions that Dark Victory was originally going to be purchased for Kate. I wonder if she still would have been labeled box office poison had she landed both of these fine roles?

Hey Judy. The book is called Greta Garbo: A Cinematic Legacy by Mark A. Vieira. Apparently it's the first Garbo book to focus only on her career, each chapter is about a separate film. It's a beautiful book.

Sounds like a good read. It's a long time since I've read a Garbo book - or seen one of her films for that matter - but I've always been intrigued by her. Her face was absolutely exquisite n'est-ce pas?
