Hi! I'm new here and first I just wanted to say how great it is to have found a Katharine Hepburn forum! don't be surprised if I'll drop by more I am a huge fan, but unforunatly I haven't got the chance to see as many Katharine Hepburn movies as I want. I am planning on buying one on dvd, but I can't decide which. I was hoping you could help me decide The place where I am wondering of buying from have these (I have a discount) that i don't yet have: A delicate balance Guess who's coming for dinner Holiday The philadelphia story Rooster Cogburn Suddenly last summer The Lion In Winter I've seen The philadelphia story and guess who's coming for finner, and I think they will be shown on tv soon enough, so those I can record myself (hopefully! ) I was thinking about maybe Holiday or The Lion In Winter, but I don't know... Suddenly last summer seems as a movie where her acting are great, but I don't know about the story is my kind of story. I mean Katharine Hepburn is great in any movie so then I might think about if I like the story as well. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi - and welcome. What a tough question you're asking though, how to choose? I'm sure we all have the same aim ie to eventually own ALL her films one way or the other. I'm not sure which films you already have, but I wouldn't be without Bringing Up Baby.
From your list though, I'd recommend The Lion in Winter for a good drama, and Holiday if you want something a little more light hearted. It also depends on whether you're more interested in Kate's early (H) or later (LIW) career.
Suddenly Last Summer is a great & powerful movie, with Katharine & Elizabeth Taylor both giving excellent performances. It definitely makes my own personal top 5 list, but if you're fairly new to KH films, you might find it a bit heavy going and not like the talky, stagey atmosphere. (Incidentally this is one of the things I love about it, as it gives me the chance to imagine how she'd have performed live on stage). As for its subject matter, well - cannibalism, homosexuality and madness all come into it, but some of these issues are pretty subtle, reflecting the era in which it was filmed.

Hmm...well, now the ones I'm wondering about is down to three at least...And as you said, we all aim for owning all of the films, so which comes first doesn't really matter that much... Well, thanks Karina for helping me a bit on the way

I would go with Holiday - mainly because I love the early Hepburn, and also because she teams up so well with Cary Grant. But, as you said, eventually you should get all of them!

my top three: philadelphia story, holiday and a delicate balance (for another stage-y atmosphere that i also love to watch for an idea of how she acted onstage). i think the philadelphia story has a few special features but nothing on Kate. there's some sort of documentary or featurette on Cary Grant. and i'm with karina, you gotta have bringing up baby!
