My favorite Tracy and Hepburn movie is that 10 second home movie clip that appears in ALL ABOUT ME of the two of them in, I think, Ireland. Of course, you never see them together because when one's on camera the other is obviously behind it.....
But seriously, Valerie (well...I WAS sorta being serious; wouldn't you love to see more of that home movie?) in the final analysis, I'm stumped. I guess I'd come down in favor of Adam's Rib, too, only under threat of torture.
On the face of it, Adam's Rib seems the more obvious choice exactly because it's so modern and they look great and the chemistry between them - not to mention between them and Cukor and the Kanins - is at its most irresistible. And, as you say, it makes us feel like we are somehow getting a glimpse at their private relationship.
It's this fact that, I think, has drawn the spotlight away from Pat and Mike over the years.
But I really think that Pat and Mike is a perfect comedy. It contains what I think is one of the top five Tracy performances. And I think the script is hilarious and clever and smart, too. Every bit as smart as Adam's Rib. With every bit as great a supporting cast - is it any wonder that Judy Holliday and Aldo Ray also worked so well together?
I guess if the torturer were about to turn on the electric prod, I'd have to shout out Adam's Rib - cause back rubs win against hand shakes all the time - but, for me, it's close. Really close.
Oh, but the first 3/4 of Woman of the Year..... And that love scene....I better go before Mister Torturer comes back...

Wassup Judes, Y'know I had forgotten about the clip of Kate and Spence on vacation in the "All About Me" documentary. I would definately love to see more of that clip, as any fan would I'm sure. i wonder if material like that will ever be privy to the public? Probably too personal. I would love to see even some photographs of some of their travels to Cuba, Ireland, England, etc. peace George

1) Woman of the Year, despite the oh-so-slow & contrived ending. Kate's never looked more glowing & sensual than in the "glass of cold milk' scene. 2) Keeper of the Flame for acting against type in a dark mystery drama 3) State of the Union for its political cynicism

1st: Adam's Rib. 2. WOTY is very close, but I don't adore second part of this movie. 3. GWCTD - it's just so moving... Next positions (but order isn't very important here): State of the Union, Desk Set, Pat and Mike and Without love I think Keeper Of The Flame is a little weird. And I haven't seen "Sea of Grass" yet.

For some reason (which I find rather upsetting), I cant actually seem to cast a vote on this poll. What goes on here?
So I can only write mine in here.
It's out of Woman of The Year, Adam's Rib, or State Of The Union for me.

Hi Shane:
You're listed as one of the members who have already voted in the poll, so that's probably why you're no longer allowed to cast a vote now under your account.

jeez, it's so difficult to pick only one as a favorite but I guess when all is said and done, I have to go with WOTY based on: the love scene in her apartment and the fact that Kate looked gorgeous throughout this film and Tracy looked handsome and gave a terrific performance because he was charmingly funny in places that called for it (on stage getting entangled in the lady's fringes) and convincingly serious when that was needed (when he walks out on the marriage). Yes, I don't like it that Tess is made to look inept in the kitchen -- even we women who can't cook -- I know, I'm one of them -- can manage to make coffee and toast and a waffle. BUT I'm willing to let George Stevens have his visual comedy segment. And truth be told, Kate and Spencer do the scene beautifully. I'm willing to overlook making Tess look inept in the kitchen because this was the film when Kate and Spencer fell for one another for keeps -- so, it's kinda neat to watch it happen on screen in reel and real life. :-)
