There is a thread for Kate references in films and novels, so I decided to start one for television references. I have three:
The Simpsons: "Catch 'Em If You Can" Homer and Marge secretly go to Miami after telling everyone they were going to Dayton Ohio to visit relatives. What they don't know is that Bart and Lisa, with Grandpa on board, have followed them. While the kids follow their parents Grandpa looks for companionship on the beach. He comes across this older woman and she says something to the effect of "your more boring than my husband...and he's dead!" in a very Katharine Hepburn-esque New England accent. Grandpa's response? "I'll be glad when we bury the last of you Hepburn types!"
The Simpsons: Episode unknown. I can't describe the scene leading up to this moment for the life of me but it may have went like this: Mr. Burns and Homer prepare to pilot a plane and Burns says he knows someone who knows how to fly. Seconds later he steps out in aviator gear (a la Katharine Hepburn in Christopher Strong) and Homer exclaims "Katharine Hepburn!" "No you fool!" says Burns.
Seinfeld: "The Cadillac part 1" Elaine's friend tells George that she could have set him up with Oscar winning actress Marisa Tomei, if only he weren't engaged to Susan. Later he reveals this to Jerry in his apartment and says "An Oscar winner! An Oscar winner Jerry! This would be like if 50 years ago someone set me up with Katharine Hepburn! Same thing! You've seen her right?" Jerry: "Katharine Hepburn, yeah." George: "Marisa Tomei!" I find it odd that they compared some one liked Tomei to the magnificent Kate Hepburn though.

haha that's funny. Who would have thought that The Simpsons would have Kate references. I don't think they were comparing Kate with Marissa Tomei... I think they were just trying to be funny by associating a legendary Oscar-winner with a not-so-legendary Oscar winner. Just my opinion. Catherine

PS I didn't know that Marissa Tomei won an Oscar...

Kate and The Philadelphia Story were often referred to in the 1980s TV series Thirty SomethingI appreciate that some of you might have been far too young to have seen it though

I have thought of three more:
I Love Lucy: "Lucy's Italian Movie" This episode is mainly remembered for the scene where Lucy stomps grapes and winds up fighting with the woman who's helping her. But I saw it again yesterday and noticed another nugget. Lucy recites the famous line "the calla lilies are in bloom again," in a Hepburn-esque accent, from the movie Stage Door-the one which Lucille Ball starred with Hepburn in!
All In the Family: "Archie Gives Blood" Near the beginning of this episode the family is sitting around the table eating breakfast discussing blood transfusions. Archie believes it is impossible for a black man to receive a white man's blood or vice versa when Edith interjects "I once got blood from Katharine Hepburn!" Edith begins to ramble through one of her trademark long-winded stories and as it turns out the man that donated Edith blood gave some to Katharine Hepburn as well. This scene put a smile on my face. On a side note, does anyone know if Katharine ever received a blood transfusion? It would be interesting to know if this matched up...in tv land at least.
All In the Family: "The Games Bunkers Play" While Archie is away the Stivics, Edith, and some of their neighbors play a game in which you are supposed to learn about yourself in the process. Edith draws a card that says "tell the group who you would most want to be like." Her answer is Katharine Hepburn because their eyes are similar (or was it hair?) and she always like her in those old movies when she "talked like she was all out of breath."

I can't think of any incidents -- that have been made public anyway -- where Kate would have had to have a blood transfusion. It is TV Land afterall.

Thought of one more: Family Guy--Peter asks Lois to do her impression of Katharine Hepburn and adds "not head-on-a-slinky On Golden Pond crap, Philadelphia Story Hepburn!"

That line from Family Guy....Cheap shot at her expense. Guess it must've been a slow, day in the writers' room. JS

Oh my God! I saw that the other night. I never watch that show (or hardly watch TV for that matter) but it was on and I guess I was too lazy to change the channel... what are the chances that some stupid cartoon would make a Katharine Hepburn reference when I happen to be watching it. I have to admit I was laughing but still, that was a cheap shot. I can't believe they said that! I was waiting for the impersonation... even though that probably wouldn't have played into the plot or whatever you want to call it. That's got to be the first time I have heard anyone making fun of Katharine Hepburn. Leave it to a trashy cartoon.

Yes I have heard a Kate reference on tv. Back in February of this year I was watching tv and there wasn't anything good on. I turned on this gameshow channel and a show called Tic Tac Dough was on. I can't remember exactly how they asked it, but it was something like "What actress has won 3 academy awards?" Kate was one of the choices and she was the answer. This show was done before she won an award for On Golden Pond. I FREAKED about that question and answer.

More Simpsons...when Homer is applying to college (and has to name three books that have changed his life), he asks Lisa if TV Guide, Son of Sniglet, and "Me" are books, to which Lisa replies rather viciously, "No!"
Plus the riding instructor in "Lisa's Pony" is totally based on Kate.
Also one from the movies, because I can't find a topic for that...in The American President, when Bening and Douglas are watching TV at Camp David...someone switches channels, and you can see, very clearly, two quick frames from Adam's Rib.
I'm totally convinced they did that on purpose...and those two did have a similar chemistry, in a way.

Charliesgirl, we've got this great new digital free-to-air channel in Australia and before I return to school I've been watching Charlie's Angels every day (how lucky am I!) and I was wondering if Kate Hepburn has ever been referenced in the show? I know there was that big Kate Jackson interview where she talks about Hepburn but was she referenced in the show at all do you know? I wish they'd bring it out on DVD.. one day!

As far as I know no Kath was never mentioned. I've seen them all many times but that was a few years ago. Enjoy getting to watch them! When I was younger it was the first show I ever saw that had strong woman in a leading role.

Kate and Spence are part of a TV Guide Special on the TV Guide channel called "Sexiest Hollywood Couples of All Time" they were number 24 out of 25 but the list comprised couples of the past and the present...Bogey and Bacall were number 2 it was a cute segment and I will try to tape it the next time it comes on...
