I didn't really know where to post this, but here's a letter Kate wrote back in 1950 in defense of Ring Lardner Jr.

I'm really interested in this part of history (the blacklisting in the late 40s) and I would love to read/hear the speech Kate gave in 1947 against the HUAC. Does anyone have this?

Great fine, Evelien! Decades later, when Lardner thanked Kate for her valuable generosity, she claimed to know nothing about writing any such letter. This was the sort of thing Kate thought one should just do, out of loyalty to a friend, and that one should not be praised for it by public acknowledgment.
