I'm so excited! I just found out I'll be going to CA next spring. I'll be in Sacramento for a few days before I head south to Hollywood.
I've been looking around online and in magazines at tours and such. Has anyone ever been to Hollywood or lived there? I REALLY want to see all the old stuff I can find. Anyone have any advice on what to see? I know I want to go to the star walk, Oakwood cemetery, and the Grauman theater. Anywhere else you can think of?
Thanks!

will you have the luxury of driving south along the coast? san francisco (and its environs) ... carmel ... fascinating scenery all along the coast .. and stop in at the hearst castle ....
LA has endless fascination. from noir locations to studio tours (MGM --> Sony) to the Bowl to the Greek Theatre ... various historic theatres like Grauman's and the Pantages ... i've done tours of town (crafted by fans) that highlighted the places where Garland lived (for example) and worked and played ... as with any city, there are layers. Didn't Raymond Chandler describe LA as an onion (i.e. layers of experiences) ... ?? You just start in and begin peeling. ....

I'm coming down from San Fran, thinking about the castle. Everyone says its really cool but way out of the way. We might be taking the train down the coast. Not 100% on that yet though.
Where do you find out about these tours crafted by fans?
thanks so much for the reply!

Where do you find out about these tours crafted by fans? ! the tour i'm talking about was crafted by some fans who were part of the planning team for a garland conference i attended in april of this year. i'd be happy to forward to you a version of the handouts we received during our tour .. which would give you the points of interest (places judy lived, worked, played .. had adventures) in the LA area ... there are also fun books i have in my collection that take specific, well, "lenses" on hollywood. for example, one published in 1989 entitled "raymond chandler's los angeles" ...

Handouts? Cool! I'm not the biggest Judy fan but I do like her. Any other star tours that you've been on? Hey! We should do a tour like that for Kate lol
