Have been wondering if we should start a thread - placing Kate and her adventurous nature on the map by naming the places we know of. You know like watching the lyrebirds - eating Hot-dogs with Prideaux - where was it they had been? A good idea?! Will start with one of the maybe lesser know destinations: Jerusalem - Kate visited the set of Lawrence of Arabia (filmed 15 May 1961 - 20 October 1962). Imdb says: Kate was the one who urged producer Sam Spiegel to cast Peter O'Toole - instead of Albert Finney who had been the favorite choice of David Lean. www.georgesintl.com/about.html On my search for more info about the above photo - found this shot - also from Jerusalem Page 8 -> www.jerusalemquarterly.org/images/ArticlesPdf/35_airport.pdf seems to be taken the same day ;-)

Didn't she also explore Iraq and surrounding area? Maybe on a different trip? There's also that picture of her and Phyllis in Turkey.
Um... some obvious ones like the Australian tour, filming of AQ in East Africa (I think she also went to Egypt with Doctor Hepburn).
In Canada she spent quite a bit of time in Vancouver, filming. Which is an adventure in some parts of the year.
In fact, a lot of her filming could be challenging- even the unexotic Oregon (Rooster Cogburn) can be an "adventure" when you're sending thousands of dollars worth of stars/equipment into the wilderness. That region is hot, full of bugs and dirt, etc. I don't think many actresses would have adapted as well.

Yes that is all true - what I meant was Kate as a private person - not as the actress. Sorry for not mentioning that. I think the private adventures of hers are as exciting as those she did while filming as ex. the trip to Turkey while filming The African Queen. Only the private trips are what I believe of a more hmmm educational nature - maybe more interesting and would give us even more insight to her personality. If you know what I mean! It doesn't have to be a foreign trip but could also be a trip to a reservation or a theater (like a certain play and a story to it? - like when she ate lunch behind the counter. Hehe forgotten where and when - somewhere East coast ) The Iraq trip sounds interesting - any more info about the trip?!

Oh, okay. Whoops. Silly me for not getting it.
I think she went to Iraq as part of the one you describe where she visited O'Toole, or maybe off the trip to Greece with her father.
Also, there's the trip to Europe with Palache when she was in Bryn Mawr. This one has always struck me as particularly amusing- two college girls on adventures. Like when they translated for tourists in exchange for free wine in France, and almost killed each other over a cigarette light. Haha. And I'm pretty sure this is the one where Kate fell in super-lust with That Welsh Guy for all of three seconds. Imagine what might have happened if Palache (I think) hadn't stepped in...we might not have our Kate!

No - it was me who wasn't clear. Of course the adventures connected to the films are interesting too. Just the ones private are less known - and as I think tells more about Kate.
Please do post any adventures ;D
