Thanks for the link, Amber (and associated commentary). And that is an excellent Avatar. Oh, Up...such a sweet movie. Totally deserved its BP nom. And the score!
As for IMDB: no. Too many trolls. Ick. Maybe we could have some kind of external activity related to this board...I don't know what...expand onto another site maybe (like its own Youtube channel or something...bad idea but just an example of what we could do). Apart from the time zones, Amber, the movie thing would be a good idea.
Maybe we could have a sort of "film of the month" thing- where we all watch, or rewatch, a certain movie over the month (many of them are available over YouTube so that could be helpful) and review it. Dunno. I know that ten exclamations of "OMG KATE AND SPENCE!!!!<3" would be silly, and several films on here have been discussed/watched to death...just a thought.

I'm not a big fan of IMBD either it was just an idea.
The 'Oh, Spence' title was just...gross! It sounded so cheeky!
Courtney I LOVE your sig, what movie is that from Rainmaker?

Courtney, I also love your sig! How awesome!
Amber, haha glad to have that comentary chum, you brought a smile to my hum-drum University ridden day!
I like many others have stated have also been at Uni studying hard. This is my first year and boy, is it exactly what I thought it would be. Work. Work. Work. Do any of you live on your campuses out of curiosity? I was shocked to hear that my UK friend said that parents there were expected to pay all fees relating to their childrens University including living on campus, no matter how close the children live to the University - WOW! Culture shock, I live over an hour away - train and bus. Anywhoo, that was off topic...
Um, I wanted to reiterate what CharliesGirl said about the "Oh, Spence" title. There is something seriously wrong with the chapter name-sayer of this book. Hooold on, is this the book we were talking about a while back? Glad you've done my reading research so I didn't waste my moneys!
I can't believe how much I don't have anything to add to this thread.
I still haven't seen Up. I'm waiting for it to go down to a reasonable price and I'll buy it. It looks really cute. Someone mentioned Spencer and Walter, I can SO see it! Of course Spence, but Walter, I'd believe that too. RIP Walts. I just think Hello, Dolly! thinking of him.. ah, how he and Barbra disliked each other lol good times, even better movie.
That's all folks **tuning out with Warner Bros Merrie Melodies tune**

Sorry to put you within ten feet of the book again, Amber, but could you transcribe? Haha. I guess Amazon shows different parts to different people. Thanks. And star- I think you've definitely created some more activity on this board And I'm so glad about it!! I agree with who says we should talk more about this forum to let people know it...I just don't know where but we have to talk about it!! It's my first year at Uni and I've been quite busy but it's Kate, so those very long books can wait! ;D

It takes me 45-50 minutes without traffic, but since lessons start at 8.30 there's traffic cause I leave at 7. It can take me a hour and a half or more, sometimes 2 hours and a half!! It was awful! -.-

Oh I completely understand, if I drove in peak hour to my University, it would easily take me 2.5 hours also. Without traffic, it would take me a little over an hour to drive there, but that's if I want to spend $24.00 PER DAY (no matter what length of time) on parking! AND in COINS only. lol it's the weirdest place. Gotta love the University of Sydney. Good times. From the movies, it makes it seem as though everyone in the U.S. lives on campus lol isn't everything in the movies true? Jess

If you are not from the area you have to live in the dorms and pay but if you are from the area you can live at home. In my town the three major Univ are $20-$30,000 a year. I cannot afford that so I drive 25 miles into WI (a neighboring state) to college. It is about $7,000 a year. It still puts me in debt out to my eye balls but being in college is the only way I can keep my insurance, don't even get my started on the health care system here... Anyway yeah that was really off topic sorry. This subject seems to be getting people talking

Jess I lived in the campus dorms for my freshman year, but after the first year the school kicks you out and you are responsible for finding your own place to live. I now live in an apartment and take the bus to school but its not more than a 20 minute ride. Of course this is a public university-- most private universities let their students live on campus for all four years if they chose to. However, it can be very expensive to live on campus. I know it is way cheaper for me to live off campus than in the dorms.

I'm currently a freshman, and living in the dorms (and will be next year). The university is right in the heart of downtown Toronto, so we're very lucky to be within easy reach of things. After first year, they choose a lottery- I was simply lucky. But due to our location it's relatively easy to find a place. (Living at home is completely out of the question- it's on the West Coast and I'm on the Great Lakes!) Jess that parking is crazy! I've never heard of rates that bad! And Charliesgirl, I have a friend from the States who is up here. He says that, even though he's paying three times the tuition as an international student, it's still cheaper than going to a university of equivalent quality in the States. So your situation isn't uncommon. Crazy. I'm sorry about the insurance situation too. I think it's okay to go o/t sometimes. Doubt Kate will mind

At my uni (Sapienza in Rome) you pay twice, one is the same for eveyone and it's more than 400 euros and the second time it depends on your "wealth", it's a public uni and at private ones you pay around 7000 euro a year! I feel lucky about this! I do think we're going off topic too! If you want I can talk about this forum on others I write, like the Judy Garland board (there are fans there like our member Martha) or the Cher board!

Terrific little avatar you got there, chum. Love it. When UP came out, I'd read how the creators were thinking Spencer Tracy and Walter Matthau for their lead. And, of course, there's no mistaking the resemblance to Old Pot. But what I was waiting to read but never found, was how the first, what, 20 minutes is most definitely a Tracy-Hepburn movie. At least that's the way I viewed it. It's my favorite part of the movie. Danke schoen, Judy et al. For me, I had to wait two excruciatingly long (~over-exaggeration) months to see UP in full, because Katie said she would spam my Facebook wall with pictures of Gene Raymond in a mankini if I went without her. That is a threat one does not take lightly, in any context. We ended up going to an afternoon showing this past summer, so besides ourselves there were about two other families in attendance, both with small children. Here is where I should say that out of 2 six-year-olds, a biddy with a denture-induced oral fixation and us, that we were probably the loudest. Go right on ahead and pick those jaws up off the floor! Be that as it may, just exactly how are we supposed to keep Diet Coke in our mouths when things like this keep happening: Kate, every day of her life. And Kat--Ellie keeps pushing Spen--uh, Carl, into doing things that are clearly outside his comfort-zone, BUT LIFE IS AN ADVENTURE! ISN'T IT THRILLING! EMBRACE THE POSSIBILITY! BE SEIZED BY THE WONDER OF IT ALL! In short, Tracy and Hepburn. We've also concluded that these two co-workers are them, as well: This one is Jeanette MacDonald: And this is Bobby Helpmann: Accuracy. I think altogether we bawled and howled and wept tears of bitter anguish a total of 18 times. Katie, a bit (~understatement) more audibly than I; poor dear almost had a stroke, she was blubbering so hard. Oh God, was that hilarious. (<3!) At one point, the ominous Scrapbook Plot Device had us clutching each other and shrilling so loud that ONE OF THE SIX-YEAR-OLDS SHUSHED US. So, Jess, that scene might not be your particular cup of tea. Anyway, you can see we liked it.

Haaaaaa Amber, I'll keep that in mind. P.S. I heart your screencap of Jeanette MacDonald. If I wanted to live at my University, I'd be looking at the same kind of costs as CharliesGirl is talking of ($20,000 +). In other words, living on campus in Australia is only for the elite. CFK, what do you mean a lottery? Choosing students at random and letting them have free accommodation? How cool is that! Alicia, are you saying something similar? Free accommodation for the first year? Star, that's an interesting system and sounds very expensive! Well, it seems as though from all those responses, the movies fooled me, yet again..Do they have fraternaties and sororities like the movies at least?! Jess

Hi just to put my two cents in lol. My University is about 30 minutes from my house so I commute but some of my friends live on campus in what they call suites they are really nice but they can get really expensive. It just depends on what you are willing to pay,you can share a room with a roomate all the way up to having your own bedroom and bath but sharing a common kitchen and living space. My class is about to start but I can discuss more later

No, Jess, not free, sadly. Spaces for second-years and up are limited, so they just choose randomly by student number (so they can't be accused of favouring anyone, I guess.) And feel free to call me Rachael.
We do have frats here but they aren't as prominent under the college system (basically, every undergrad in the big university is categorized in a sub-college, which gives them a smaller community and a sort of anchor among the 70,000 students attending).
Amber- I actually took a bunch of six-year-olds to Up. Oh, that was an experience. Since Kate must have frequently taken her younger siblings out, well, I have some inkling now of why she never had children.

I just wanted to say that my XFiles forums have probably spoiled me because there is so much discussion there although new films are not being made that now I wish this forum was a little bit more active so I could discuss my KH love with someone else But maybe things will get better, I see some new members joining and old ones will hopefully find some time to come here too. OT, I haven't seen "Up" yet, but now I have to find it somewhere, I'm so looking forward to it ;D
