I just watched this over the weekend...well the holiday weekend. This is one of my least favorite William's work. I thought Kate did a good job and I liked seeing the Philly dress in color but I wasn't a fan of the film.
I read some where that Kate had to slap her son and she hit him very hard (said the director) but it wasn't in the movie. Does anyone know did he make this up or was it cut from the movie?

It is some time ago that I saw The Glass Menagerie - I can't remember Amanda slapping Tom either.
Are you sure that is isn't trivia from Long Day's Journey into Night you are thinking about? Because there Kate's character Mary Tyrone slaps her son Edmund very hard - and that was told by the director Sidney Lumet.
