KH's little speech was nice, but I will have to concur with Amber re: the hamburger. So skinny! All in all, it's an interesting video though.
Jennifer Jones and Ingrid Bergman both look slightly stoned. Shirley Temple has frightening eyes. Van Johnson is pimptastic in his car!
Kate looks like the only one actually awake.

That's jus' her wonky eating practices which made her all stringbean-like [if we're going with the food motif]. She'll call you that proposed hamburger... and raise you another.... and then another. And then she'll have 6 chocolate puddings. With a vanilla milkshake. She couldn't possibly be bothered to look as if she actually cares about the thing, though. She's all "Here are my lines about this tragic happening in America, now cah'nah get the hecks outta here? ? I have a tennis lesson in a half hour, and I have to fit in my 15th meal in that time." Also if I see that buckle-blazer one more time, I'm going to torch it. Don't ask me how. VAN JOHNSON IS MY BABYDADDY. (PS, I'm really tempted to make a dramatic!Jimmy Stewart.)

I just find it strange that KH agreed to make this film. "American Brotherhood of Christians and Jews"? It's too, too weird for me.

Hi Judy, well I guess I wouldn't have thought of her as a particularly religious person, more of a left leaning liberal. More concerned, dare I say it, with socialist type issues (eg public health/planned parenthood etc etc) than wishy washy campaigns like this one.

But I believe this was more of a secular than religious organization, so I think her willingness to participate in this stemmed from her humanitarian views.

I'm trying to figure out why you'd call public health and planned parenthood "socialist" type issues. Or why you appear to think that being religious would preclude being a "left-leaning liberal." It's possible to be religious and a liberal although there is an element in this country who would like everyone to think that it's not possible to be both. A person isn't a socialist because they are concerned with public health or planned parenthood. Nor is one espousing a religious message when they support an organization promoting cooperation and understanding among religions especially coming after the horror that had been visited on the European Jewish population and other groups by the Nazis. It was quite admirable of Hepburn to take the time to do a public service message that would remind people of where hatred of any kind can ultimately lead.

But I believe this was more of a secular than religious organization, so I think her willingness to participate in this stemmed from her humanitarian views. Sherry's post sent me back to read your original one, Rosie. I must've been drunk when I read it the first time, because it appears that I COMPLETELY misread it. I read "social" rather than "socialist" - probably because in my mind I find the causes of public health and planned parenthood to be just that - social reforms, which does not necessarily translate into socialism. We've got too much of that kind of labeling in this country of any group or person fighting for reforms. So my mind played tricks on me. Also I have to say that calling the campaign wishy washy strikes me as a bit weird, too. For some reason, I missed that part of your post, too. Coming right after the horrors of WW II, a group that preached against hate speech and plead for tolerance and understanding among people of all faiths was a brave and admirable thing to do. Probably because doing so labeled one exactly what you called Kate: a left-leaning liberal. And we know what that lead to in the late 40's and 50's.
