It was completely unexpected. Always heard good things about him.

Not really unexpected. He sort of lived dangerously but I never thought he would be killed by a stingray. Such a freak accident. I was watching a documentary on him on Discovery (?) last night. So sad. He was so full of energy and was fascinated by everything. At least he had a fulfilled life. Not sure I agree with jumping on crocs' backs or bringing a baby into a croc pit but hey, to each his own. He and his wife were talking about how you should introduce children to "vicious" animals as babies so they don't become unnecessarily fearful of them as they grow older, as children do because that is how they are taught -- crocodiles, bears, etc. are vicious, don't mess with them. But really, crocodiles can be sort of volatile. I don't think I would bring my baby into a ring with me no matter how friendly I thought it was. I think it's sort of common sense, not being full of fear. But whatever. He was a great guy anyway.
