So, this: news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081212/ap_en_ot/obit_van_johnson...is not okay with me. Not in the slightest. It was just a few days ago that we had a conversation about how Liza feels vaguely like you---in accordance to her red socks. It felt so refreshingly normal to have an Old Hollywood crush that wasn't six-feet-under and then he does this. Not cool, Van Johnson. Not cool. ::snickers:: :-( !

This was rather shocking. Not much had been heard about Van for many years but I always hoped that his health would have held out for a much longer time.
I love that photo with Garland, by the way. Also, I uploaded on Youtube one of Van Johnson' appearances on The Name's The Same.

ah van. this shot is from [after probably] judy's appearance in 1952 at LA Philharmonic Auditorium .. April 21 ... and that's my little garland factoid spew here. ah Van. a classy and funny character. p.s. thank you muchly for posting this image. i hadn't seen it before, amid the swarm of shots from this event i've seen in the past. the lacey dress confection judy's is wearing gives the thing away ... some shots of judy with joan crawford AND jane wyman (laughing at a table) at this same event are among my favorites ... but back to van and my somber and amused appreciation. because he could be somber and amused. bless him.

poor van one of the few still left from the golden age of hollywood when movies didnt have to have sex and violence to be classic. He was one of those classic era actors that I had a crush on aside from spence of course loved his role in State of the Union he will be missed

How the flip did I miss this post?! VAAAAAAAAAN. Who could not adore Van Johnson. He had it all. I wish he was in State of the Union more. He was a brilliant actor.
Some of his best work of course with June Allyson. They did a brilliant picture that I haven't been able to find anyone else to have heard of, it's called "Remains to be Seen". It's a mystery comedy. Van and June are in their prime in the movie and although the plot is shakely stupid, it's a fun lively film. They sing "Too Marvelous for Words" and "Toot Toot Tootsie" in it. I think Lucille Bremmer also makes an appearance from memory. Awesome movie, if you 'cable' people can catch it on TCM ever.
R.I.P. Van Johnson.
