This is great news. I'm really excited about this one. It's a step up from that bare bones DVD we all probably have in our collection.
*crosses fingers for a commentary by Katharine Houghton*

Oh, I'm sorry, ya'll. Forgot to post that.
I found that DVD on the web a looong time ago. Didn't bother posting it on here because:
1.) There's nothing from Kathy. 2.) The Special Features are all about CIVIL RIGHTS IN THE 60s!! Sooo relevant! 3.) Whatever. I like Stanley, but... he's probably not the MAIN reason why people are going to buy the thing.
See? Special Features: · A Message from Tom Brokaw · A Message from Quincy Jones · Introduction by Karen Kramer · "A Special Kind of Love" featurette · "A Love Story of Today" featurette · "Stanley Kramer: A Man's Search for Truth" · 2007 Producers Guild of America "Stanley Kramer" Award Presentation to Al Gore · Stanley Kramer Accepts the Irving Thalberg Award · Photo Gallery
SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT AL GORE HAS TO DO WITH GWCTD?
EW.

That is kinda lame. But I like Stanley Kramer, so I'll probably get a kick out of some of those features.
The price is reasonable, so I won't hesitate to buy this.

Oh......my hopes were so high and then dashed in less than a minute. That must be some kind of record. I'm with you tracylord. I don't own the first edition dvd either so I guess I'll be getting this one. Who can resist that fancy gold band and the words '40th Anniversary Edition' ? Honestly now, who's waiting for the 100th Anniversary Edition of Gone With the Wind sure to be released in 2039? ;D

I'm sorry guys and gals!
I'm a bad person.
...because we all know I will probably shell out the money for the gold band alone. Maybe.
The features might have glimpses of Kathy Houghton! So... don't hate me.
That GWTW DVD will probably be so packed full of footage it will be of box set proportions.

Honestly now, who's waiting for the 100th Anniversary Edition of Gone With the Wind sure to be released in 2039? ;D OMG! Wow that is something to look forward to! It's a freakin long way away though lol. I'm tired of my 4 disc set I need more footage to be released! They really need to release some deleted scenes like the orginal ending they had of Scarlett back at Tara. I need me some deleted scenes lol.

Just finished watching the 40th Anniversary edition of GWCTD -- you will definitely want to own this. The film looks beautiful -- lush, rich color. The featurettes -- Katharine Houghton speaks on both "A Love Story of Today" and "A Special Kind of Love". Many stills of Kate and the others being directed by Kramer. Lovely stills of Kate with Katharine H. Some I've not seen previously anywhere. "A Special Kind of Love" begins with a still of Kate and Spencer and a voiceover by Kate from a 1967 interview and it just gets better from there. I will not quote from it because all of you should have the pleasure of watching and hearing Katharine Houghton speak beautifully, warmly, and lovingly about Kate and Spencer. This segment without saying so, is really about them and their love. It's quite moving emotionally. I had tears in my eyes by the end of this segment and you'll note that Katharine Houghton did too. A note about the importance of this movie. Most of you are young so you don't recall a time when interracial relationships were shocking. I was in college when this film opened. This film was huge -- packed theatres -- not just with Kate and Spencer and Poitier fans -- but with people who knew that this film was saying something important and spoke to what was happening in America at that moment in time. I will add that without a groundbreaking film like this, we would not finally have arrived at the day when Sen. Obama could possibly be the next President of the United States. This movie opened windows and let in some much needed fresh air. Buy and enjoy it. Sherry

Amber's Report Coming Sooooon!
All I can say right now before I begin to have yet another moment on here is that you simply MUST buy this DVD. I have been a 14-year-old version of myself all day. Darn. I am trying to be a grown-up about this, but am finding it to be very, very difficult. For starters, my face is a mess. Whoever said that [hyperactive and sparatic] laughter through tears is the greatest emotion spoke the truth, man. I have only seen GWCTD one and a half times after 6/29/03, but I MADE IT through one of the toughest scenes: Kate walking out on the terrace during sunset. So proud of myself. *edit* [in the feature, I mean. I'm not watching the movie today] It went to hell from there, but I give myself a pat anyways.
PS, I have you know that the background to my cell phone are the two Kathies doing the cheek-bump.
I better stop before I lose it.
