I have a copy of this early Phil Barry play. Katharine got the role but was sacked . The reasons vary - she said it was because she was taller than Leslie Howard - apparently he didn't like her .
A great play - it revolves around Tom -a young man who is torn between his wife and his mistress Daisy . Daisy is an unconventional young woman who actually proposes to Tom just as he confesses to her that he is going to be married to somebody else .
I would have loved to see Katharine as Daisy

Can you imagine what it would have been like to see a young Katharine Hepburn on stage, before she ever went to Hollywood? All the biographies mention how she would become flustered and flub up her lines on stage, but she seemed pretty professional to me as early as Christopher Strong; the words "Katharine Hepburn" and "amatuer" don't belong in the same sentence.

Shaun,
When Katharine died in 2003 they had a forum where Bryn Mawr graduates could write in about Katharine . One of the posts was from a woman who remembered Katharine playing Woman in the Moone at Bryn Mawr in 1928 - the lady was 8 years old at the time and she said she always remembered Katharine's performance even before she knew who she was .
I think Katharine's early stage career was up and down for a number of reasons - fluffing her lines was probably a problem in the beginning but I think it was more than that . For a start Katharine looked and sounded like nobody else - and being a total original didn't always work to her advantage - other people might wish to suggest other reasons
