Thanks for sharing the wealth. This is a nice companion to the screencap thread. I have a new found love for Stage Door--wasn't Ginger Rogers excellent?

Hmm that's interesting. Is that a private drawing or something made by RKO to promote Stage Door?

I simply love Stage Door. It was one of the first Kate films I ever owned but at the time I purchased it because of Ginger.
Shaun, yes Ginger was EXCELLENT. I'm so glad she was able to do these kinds of roles. In fact, although a slow picture in places, I think this is one of her finest performances. She is SO believable! Her lines run off her tongue effortlessly as if add-libbed. Supurb perfornance. The cut to her in the theatre when Kate's character thanks "Kay". Ugh, Ginger was great at those moments. An exceptional dramatic actress sometimes overlooked due to the Astaire Rogers success.
Now to Kate, who was equally excellent to Ms Rogers' fine performance. Again, completely believable to me. For me, because of Kate's "Bryn Mwar" or New England accent / elocution, I always believe her in roles where she is of society and a background of wealth. Perfection.
This movie was perfectly cast - and what a wonderful treat to see Ann Miller and Lucille Ball before their careers skyrocketed! Ann Miller of course was only 14 when she did this movie but at that time was lying about her age, pretnding to be quite alot older to get into that role.
This film was awesome to me as a musical lover - to get to see Annie and Ginger tap together (for the only time?). Pure magic. 14 year old Annie going step for step with Ginger. Timeless.
Of course, besides the famous calalillies (spelling?) scene, the best part of the film for me was a lighter more comical one in which Ginger comes in stark drunk from her dinner date singing 'It certainly seems rather high, it certainly is rather hiiighhh' to which Kate replies "You seem rather high yourself" and later when Ginger says 'What's-his-name?' and Kate asks, "Do you know your own name?"
This really showcased Kate's comical timing in such an early stage of her career. A great film not to be missed. The biggest fault of course is the poor quality in which the DVD is presented. A restored version would be bliss!

Stage Door is one of my favourites too!
I'm an actress myself so I love these movies about acting and all the stuff that goes on about it! Just love it.
Stage Door is such an enjoyable, funny and sad movie at the same time. I love when Kate says 'It'd be a terrific innovation if you could get your mind to stretch a little further than the next wisecrack...' ZING!
