I've seen the movie a few times - have it on a very bad videotape. But pre-ordered it recently from TCM. It appears that the remastered version will be the whole picture and not the one edited down for release back then.
I am of the belief that KH had chemistry with every actor she ever played opposite. From Turhan Bey to the kids in Olly Olly Oxen Free. This film is the exception that proves my rule, I guess. Hope is always blamed for making a mess of it - and I think there's truth to that. He should have trusted the material and his co-star. What it might have been with the Ben Hecht material and another leading man, is something we'll never know.
But my recollection is that it is not ONLY Hope. I haven't seen it in quite a while, but my impression was that the entire thing looked done on the cheap, which I bet it was.
Still I'm quite pleased to be able to add this one to my collection. Good or bad, it's her work, and she is never less than fascinating to watch...IMO.

Probably close to true. When I saw it for the first time it was at the Museum of Modern Art - so not even in a revival house - sometime in the seventies.
